Both Osian, Richard and the T1 have safely made it to Ocean Energy Europe in Aviemore, where we will be hanging around at the Marine Energy Wales Stand. Unfortunately Diane got delayed by fog at Nantes, but she will arrive this morning in time to give her presentation tomorrow, updating the amazing progress Inyanga have made, including our technical advancements and project updates from Anglesey Morlais, Indonesia and Phillipines. Diane will also update on our recent takeover of the Sabella D10 and her amazing efforts to keep this iconic turbine operational. The D10 is currently providing green electrons to the island community at Ushant Island. Richard will be involved in a panel discussion this afternoon regarding direct drive versus gearbox, we will be arguing the case for direct drive. Both the T1 and the Sabella D10 are direct drive turbines and both have proven to be robust and reliable. Indeed the T1 has more running years than any tidal turbine ever produced, and is the inspiration for the design of our next generation commercial scale 600kw T3 turbine. We would be delighted to catch up during the event and explain more, so please come and see us at the Marine Energy Wales Stand

T1 to OEE2024- Why on earth would we send a tidal turbine to a ski resort in the Scottish Highlands??? Well this isnt just any turbine, this is a T1 turbine that has seen 9 years of reliable operation and is full operationally and easily capable of doing another 9 years. The T1 will be on display at the Ocean Energy Europe 2024 Conference in Aviemore- https://lnkd.in/ecW3cmnU Diane, Osh and myself will also be coming along though we will have to take the train as there wasn't enough room on the back of the truck for us. Diane and myself will be presenting to provide updates on our developments, especially our progress at Morlais and our recent take-over of the Sabella D10 turbine is Isle De Ouessant! Many thanks to Neil and Warren for getting the turbine and all painted up and organising the logistics. We look forward to showing off our iconic T1 turbine and updating you all on the development of our latest high-tech T3 turbine. We would be delighted to catch up with any of you going along to the conference.

Inyanga Maritime have formally taken over the Sabella D10 Turbine in Passage Du Fromveur. The turbine is fully operational and providing power to the inhabitants of Isle De Ouessant (Ushant Island) from the powerful tides of the notorius Passage which joings the English Channel to the Bay of Biscay.

Inyanga Marine Energy Group takes over the first grid-connected tidal turbine in France- It has been announced that Inyanga Marine Energy Group is taking over the D10 tidal turbine in France. The D10 tidal turbine was the first grid-connected tidal turbine in France, initially deployed in 2015. It is located in the Fromveur Passage, off the coast of Brittany, and provides clean sustainable energy to the remote island of Ushant. The D10 turbine was previously owned by French company Sabella, which went into liquidation in January 2024. Inyanga Marine Energy Group have now secured permissions to operate the tidal turbine until August 2028. The Inyanga Marine Energy team, which is headquartered in the UK and has an office in Brittany in France, has managed all offshore operations at the D10 site since 2016. Diane Dhomé of Inyanga Marine Energy Group said: “All permitting for the D10 turbine has now been renewed. We really appreciate the great support our company received from the Brittany Region and the French Administration. We have a shared vision for the development of renewable tidal energy.” Since its launch in 2015, the D10 tidal turbine has undergone various efficiency improvements and the technology has been validated as well as proven to have no negative impact on the local marine environment. Laid on the seabed at a depth of 55 metres, the machine is 17 metres high and 10 metres in diameter and can deliver up to 250kW of clean electricity to Ushant island grid. It has been operating continuously since its last deployment, managed by Inyanga, in early 2022. Richard Parkinson, CEO of Inyanga Marine Energy Group, added: “We have been heavily involved in the offshore operations on the D10 for several years and we were saddened by the bankruptcy of Sabella. We are pleased that our takeover of the D10 tidal turbine has now been concluded by the courts and the new deeds are now being drawn up. The future is safeguarded for this iconic tidal turbine, which has enjoyed tremendous support from the local community. It is another exciting milestone for Inyanga Marine Energy Group as we move towards our ambition of being the world leader in tidal energy.” The Fromveur Passage (also known as St Vincent’s Channel) has the second strongest tidal current in France and is notorious amongst sailors for its violent currents.

The rapid development of our T-3 turbine continues at a pace with the patented Passive Bi-Blade system that allows larger 14.1m diameter blades to be fitted to capture more energy for the same thrust load, equivalent to 9.98m diameter blade.

HydroWing successfully completes hydrodynamic blade testing for tidal energy   Inyanga Marine Energy Group has successfully completed hydrodynamic testing of the revolutionary Passive Pitch Unit for its patented HydroWing technology. HydroWing was recently awarded the largest tidal energy project in the UK in Allocation Round 6 of the UK government’s Contracts for Difference scheme and the company is now on course for deploying a 20MW tidal energy project at Morlais in Wales, in addition to other projects around the world.   The hydrodynamic testing was conducted at the Kelvin Hydrodynamics Laboratory at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland.   Richard Parkinson, CEO of Inyanga Marine Energy Group, said: “These exciting test results mark a major milestone in our mission to deliver low cost, efficient and reliable tidal energy arrays. Our engineering team have excelled in delivering a game-changing turbine and blade solution which doubles annual energy production, making our Morlais 20MW project highly investable.”   The test results confirm that the cutting-edge blade rotor on HydroWing’s tidal energy device can automatically regulate its own pitch using its innovative, self-adjusting system. This breakthrough validates the HydroWing technology and it is the culmination of two years of intensive development by HydroWing’s R&D team.   Richard Parkinson explains: “With this new pitch regulation system, the blade rotors can now scale to twice the swept area, whilst ensuring safety and efficiency, even in the harshest ocean conditions. This technology advance unlocks new possibilities for harnessing marine energy at a larger scale and paves the way for future innovations in predictable sustainable power generation. The passive pitch mechanism not only regulates the output of the device but protects the device from adverse conditions such as wave loadings, grid loss and storm surges. Passive pitch has major benefits over active pitch in terms of reliability, cost and load damping, while also achieving increased energy yield.”   The project has been supported by the IDCORE Programme through which HydroWing have engaged two engineers as part of their EngD thesis.   George Dadd, Lead Turbine Engineer at HydroWing, said: “The tests on the passive pitch technology have behaved exactly as calculated, validating the ‘proof of concept’. We will now continue the validation process with a full scale test rig.”

Our HydroWing Tidal Generation technology is leading the way in displacing thirsty and expensive diesel generators in remote island communities in SE Asia and beyond. The beauty of a tidal turbine is that you never need to fill it up with fuel- it is fuelled from the oceanic and semi diurnal tides from the surrounding sea. Tidal Energy is significantly cheaper than Diesel Generation, not to mention energy security and achieving zero emissions. The main benefit of tidal energy is that combined with very low-level storage to create base load power due to the predictability and perpetual nature of the tides- this can displace up to 95% of diesel consumption. Many of these islands are very remote and transporting diesel is very expensive. This in turn creates wealth and prosperity to these island nations by providing cheaper and more secure generation, which in turn can provide local opportunities and growth. This diesel displacement cannot be achieved with solar and wind due to intermittency, and as such we have created a ready-made competitive market for tidal power!
