The main reasons why people love salmon are because it tastes great and it's packed full of healthy Omega-3s. ❤️ Our new Omega-3 Deposition Model (O3D) helps to ensure this by predicting EPA and DHA levels in salmon fillets based on feeding regimes. It can also be used to calculate how much EPA and DHA is needed in feed to meet target levels in the fillet. 🍣 For feed and salmon producers, the model ensures more nutritious, high-quality fish – and the benefits extend downstream: 👩🌾 Farmers 🛒Retailers and food service 🍴 Consumers Swipe through the carousel to see how. 👇 With Veramaris algal oil, producers can boost EPA & DHA in both feed and fish, while reducing reliance on fragile and limited marine resources. 🌍 #Omega3 #O3DModel #AlgaeOil #SustainableSeafood

🌍 At the recent IFFO Conference in Lisbon, our CEO, Gertjan de Koning, shared how we’re supporting the rapidly growing aquaculture industry while helping to meet EPA and DHA needs in aquafeed. 🐟💧 Alternative ingredients like Veramaris algal oil help ensure that there is a sustainable source of EPA and DHA once the sustainable fisheries have maxed out. Our goal isn’t to replace fish oil but to complement it, creating a resilient, balanced solution for the industry. 🌱✨
Algal Oil: Friend or Foe? This was the question I posed at the IFFO – The Marine Ingredients Organisation Conference in Lisbon, where fish oil producers and buyers gather in a great networking event. The recent El Niño gave us a sneak preview of what the world looks like when fish oil supply falls critically short — and it doesn’t look pretty. To prevent history from repeating itself, the industry must act now. By 2050, aquaculture feed needs will double, as will the demand for Omega-3 EPA and DHA. There’s only so much we can catch from our oceans — and it’s not going to be enough. Only by committing to alternatives like algal oil and moving beyond least-cost formulas, the aquaculture industry can strategically address the growth-limiting EPA & DHA shortfall. Algal oil is not aiming to replace fish oil, but to offer an additional source when sustainable fisheries max out. Only then aquaculture can fullfill its important mission to help nourish a growing world population. Friend or foe? #IFFO2024 #AlgalOil #Aquaculture

What can each stakeholder in the seafood value chain do to de-risk the future for aquafeeds while ensuring the health, welfare, quality, and sustainability of farmed fish and shrimp? Our Business Development Manager, Ian Carr, delves into this pressing question in his first LinkedIn article, reflecting on insights from the Global Seafood Alliance Responsible Seafood Summit in St Andrews, Scotland. 🐟 💡 Click through to learn more.
I'm trying something new today: My very first LinkedIN article! Why? Because I want to distribute some of the thoughts I shared during the excellent Global Seafood Alliance Responsible Seafood Summit last week with a wider audience. I'd love to read your reflections in the comments if you find time to read the article. Its not too long - I promise! Thanks to Katherine Bryar for leading the discussion and to fellow panelists Elin Kvamme Simon Wadsworth Allan LeBlanc Christopher Haacke Lukas Manomaitis

It was an honor to share the stage with industry leaders at the Global Seafood Alliance Responsible Seafood Summit in St Andrews, Scotland, last week. 🐟🌍 Ian Carr, our Business Development Manager, featured as a panelist on ‘The Evolution of Nutrients in Aquafeeds: Why nutrient needs should guide aquafeed’s path.’ 📌 The discussion included representatives from MiAlgae, Innovafeed, U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), BioMar and Calysta. Experts shared insights about the role of nutrients in fish health & welfare, the challenges of meeting rising demand for feed, and how better understanding seafood nutrition can help us become more sustainable as an industry. Exciting research presented by all panelists revealed how novel nutrient sources like algal oil, insect meal and single cell protein can future proof our industry. 🤝 🙏Thanks to Simon Wadsworth, Global R&D Director at BioMar, for kicking off the discussion and to Katherine Bryar, Global Marketing Director at BioMar for moderating the session. #GlobalSeafoodAlliance #Aquafeed #SustainableSeafood

How can we ensure that the nutritional quality of farm-raised salmon is delivered to our plates? 🍴Here’s the 101 on Omega-3 Deposition! 👇 🐟 Atlantic salmon get Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA from their feed and these essential nutrients are needed for growth, immunity and general survival. Any EPA and DHA which is not used to survive, is deposited in the fillet, which is what ensures the fish we eat is nutritious and delicious! Through extensive research, we know that the deposition of EPA and DHA can be predicted. 📊 Our innovative O3D Model offers producers a unique scientific tool to achieve consistent nutritional quality in salmon in two ways: 1) Calculate how much EPA & DHA you need in your feed to achieve a target level in the fillet 2) Estimate how much EPA & DHA you get in the fillet for any given dietary profile Veramaris algal oil is rich in EPA & DHA fatty acids, offering producers a sustainable and certified alternative to improve fillet quality. ✨ #Omega3 #O3DModel #AlgaeOil #SustainableSeafood

Why do you choose seafood? 🐟 If it’s for the health and nutritional benefits, you’re not alone — 69% of consumers agree with you! ❤️ Seafood, particularly salmon, provides Omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA, which support heart, joint, immune, and brain health. Experts recommend 250-500 mg of EPA and DHA daily, but how can we be sure we’re getting that? Not all salmon fillets are equal, as you'll see in the data below. 👇 That’s why we’ve developed a pioneering tool that combines a nutrient demand model with a fatty acid deposition model — helping to ensure a consistent and reliable nutritional profile in farm-raised salmon. 🆕 Introducing our Omega-3 Deposition Model (O3D) 🌟 Find out more by visiting https://lnkd.in/ekUjuH5e #Omega3 #O3DModel #AlgaeOil #SustainableSeafood
