📅🐙 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐮𝐩 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐧 20 𝐣𝐚𝐚𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐳𝐢𝐣 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 De Octopus follow-up studie onderzocht de langetermijnuitkomsten van drie verschillende behandelingen voor coronairlijden: on-pump CABG, off-pump CABG en PCI. Dit is mogelijk gemaakt door een innovatieve datakoppeling tussen CBS Microdata en de NHR Kwaliteitsregistratie: hiermee is de oorspronkelijke follow-up periode voor sterftecijfers en re-interventies van 5 jaar uitgebreid naar 20 jaar. 📊 Met succes: juiste koppeling tussen de twee databronnen lag tussen de 84% en 98%. Hiermee maakt het onderzoek duidelijk dat het mogelijk is om klinische gegevens succesvol te koppelen aan nationale databases. Hiermee kan de betrouwbaarheid en volledigheid van langetermijnprognoses worden verbeterd. Deze methodologie opent de deur voor grootschalige evaluaties van patiëntuitkomsten, vooral voor langdurige follow-up studies. 🔬 Beleidsveranderingen cruciaal voor een duurzaam verdienmodel in drug repurposing In een recente publicatie in @Drug Discovery Today roepen Saco de Visser, Sibren van den Berg (Medicijn voor de Maatschappij), Arend Mosterd (Meander Medisch Centrum) en Donald Lo (EATRIS/REMEDi4ALL) op tot noodzakelijke beleidsveranderingen voor het hergebruik van bestaande medicijnen. Ze benadrukken dat drug repurposing een beleidsprioriteit moet worden om betaalbare therapieën te ontwikkelen en de enorme potentie voor patiënten te benutten. ⚖️ Huidige uitdagingen Helaas resulteert drug repurposing nog zelden in nieuwe geregistreerde behandelingen. Dit komt voornamelijk doordat het zorgsysteem onvoldoende zekerheid biedt voor investeerders, waardoor belangrijke kansen onbenut blijven. Het voorbeeld van colchicine, waar dit leidde tot onredelijk hoge prijzen in de VS, benadrukt de urgentie van deze veranderingen. 💡 Aanbevolen oplossingen De auteurs stellen twee oplossingen voor: vrijwillige prijsafspraken per casus of wettelijke verplichtingen voor specifieke prijsmodellen bij drug repurposing. Ze pleiten voor een structurele oplossing via wetgeving, die investeerders zekerheid biedt en tegelijkertijd onterechte prijsstijgingen voorkomt.
