Vopak South Africa recently organized a tree planting event at the Umgeni Beachwood Mangrove Nature Reserve and Estuary, with volunteers and employees coming together to plant 200 indigenous trees. This initiative is part of Vopak South Africa's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and biodiversity. Mangroves play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide and providing a habitat for local wildlife. EemsEnergyTerminal launches an open season for the storage and regassification of LNG after 2027 in the Eemshaven in the Netherlands. EemsEnergyTerminal is a subsidiary of Gasunie and Royal Vopak. The LNG terminal is developed in 2022 to increase energy security in the Netherlands and North West Europe. EemsEnergyTerminal is inviting market parties to formulate a non-binding expression of interest (EOI). In this Vopak WeConnect Story, meet Melanie Campbell, a 25-year-old entrepreneur from Panama. Melanie is an architecture candidate at the University of Panama and the owner of Mua Moda, her jewelry business. Melanie joined the Women Entrepreneurs Vopak WeConnect project alongside 19 other women, an initiative designed to strengthen entrepreneurial skills. She shares how the project helped her grow into a more confident and capable entrepreneur. Her enthusiasm for the program was so strong that she decided to join the second edition as well! Together with our suppliers and customers, our team at Vopak Terminal Los Angeles has completed successful emission control tests on tankers. This technology treats emissions components to minimize impacts on local communities. The technology has been used in the past on container vessels, and is now tested on tankers. Vopak Terminal Los Angeles is excited to continue testing and rolling out the technology ahead of the CARB Ocean-Going Vessels At Berth regulation. CARB (California Air Resources Board) regulation requires control of nitrous oxides, particulate matter, and reactive organic gasses. Thanks to everyone involved who made these tests successful. 🎓 Today, on the UN International Day of Education, we celebrate the power of education to shape brighter futures. This year’s theme, “AI and education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation,” highlights the critical role education plays in equipping individuals and communities to navigate and influence technological advancements. At Vopak WeConnect, we aim to empower youngsters and contribute to more sustainable communities through diverse projects and educational activities. A great example is the Jobs of the Future program launched by our Vopak colleagues in Lesedi, South Africa. This Vopak WeConnect project is a Youth Community Development Program designed to prepare 250 high school students for the careers of tomorrow. In a rapidly changing job market, the program equipped students with essential knowledge and skills through workshops and seminars on emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, soft skills, and industry-specific skills. Students even explored the latest immersive technology, such as virtual reality tools, to gain hands-on experience and broaden their horizons. Robotic Inspection of live ammonia Tanks at Kertih Terminals A non-intrusive cutting-edge robotic technology was successfully deployed at Vopak’s joint venture company, Kertih Terminals Sdn Bhd (KTSB), to assess the fitness of ammonia tanks without taking them out of service. This is the second time that a Vopak company utilised this technology to successfully assess the health of ammonia tanks after Sabtank, a Vopak joint venture in Saudi Arabia. This innovation ensures safety and efficiency in industrial operations by addressing the challenges posed by ammonia's corrosive and toxic properties. Regular inspections are critical to ensure tank integrity and safety, but traditional methods involve significant risks during decommissioning and recommissioning and require prolonged shutdowns. 💡 By adopting non-intrusive robotic technology, KTSB has: ✅ Eliminated the need for human entry into confined spaces. ✅ Avoided a full year of tank shutdown. ✅ Set a new benchmark for safety and operational efficiency in the chemicals industry. The Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Malaysia validated this innovative process, recognizing its potential to establish new industry standards for safety and innovation. “KTSB’s vision is to be the safest and best terminal that anybody has worked with. We have two of the largest ammonia tanks in Southeast Asia.
