Bring It Back #5 is a wrap! 🎃 Yesterday we celebrated Halloween a little different. We exposed ourselves to the dark side of the fashion industry, and boy this one is scary. Our incredible panel of experts shared some insights on the things that makes this industry so dark and full of terror. Halloween plays a big part in that as well. Did you know it's one of the most wasteful celebrations of the year? 👻 Luckily it wasn't all doom and gloom. There are many opportunities and change is coming. We need more local production, sustainable designs and accessible alternatives to turn things around and make fashion future-proof. Meet our second speaker! 👀 Representing Erasmus University Rotterdam we're thrilled to announce Younghyun (Young) Kim as the second speaker of Bring It Back #5! 🎃 Young Kim completed her PhD in Urban Planning at Columbia University, focusing her dissertation on circular economy transition dynamics in New York City’s fashion industry. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam, participating in the FABRIX project (fabrixproject.eu) that aims to create circular ecosystems in the textile and clothing sectors of Rotterdam and Athens. In addition to her research, she teaches courses on cultural and creative industries, exploring their intersections with urban development. It's none other than Xander Slager, founder of New Optimist! ⚡️ New Optimist is much more than just a clothing brand. It's a vehicle for systematic change in the fashion industry. Right in the heart of Amsterdam they're quietly building a revolution, creating high quality garments. Each New Optimist garment is a statement of expression. It’s a symbol of teamwork, an icon of craftsmanship. They recently launched their new OPT collection all made in Amsterdam. Xander has worked in the fashion industry for over 20 years, spending much of his time in Asia. So he knows a thing or two about what makes the fashion industry such a devastating machine. Waarom zou je iets kopen wat je relatief kort gebruikt? 🤔 Dat is de vraag die Julie Munneke-Tromp zichzelf ook afvroeg nadat haar tweede op komst was. Eindeloos marktplaats afstruinen voor een goede deal als het gaat om een co-sleeper, kinderwagen of trip trap stoel. Inmiddels kunnen wij daar ook over meepraten. Voor haar reden genoeg om zelf de stoute schoenen aan te trekken en Tiny Library op te richten. Een online rental platform voor baby- en kinderproducten. Voor een tientje per maand heb je een autostoeltje die zo goed als nieuw is, of voor 7 euro per maand een complete babystoel set. Inmiddels is ze zo'n 5 jaar verder en werkt ze met een team van 14 man aan haar missie voor een meer circulaire en duurzame industrie van baby en kinderproducten. Bovendien zijn toonaangevende merken zoals Joolz en Bugaboo aangesloten als partner, en als klap op de vuurpijl haalde ze begin dit jaar 1,4 miljoen groeigeld op. Bring It Back #4 is a wrap! 🤩 What an incredible evening! The energy in the room was absolutely electric ⚡ as we gathered for an inspiring panel discussion featuring Thami Schweichler, Bas Timmer and Puck Middelkoop who shared their remarkable insights on their journeys so far. Each panelist brought unique perspectives, making for an engaging and thought-provoking session that left us all buzzing with ideas. 🌟 The magic continued afterwards, as the post-event networking was full of energy and excitement. Vandaag in de WEAR Podcast een dame die de wereld van greenwashing corporates laat beven. Met haar team van advocaten zoekt ze tot op de bodem uit of de claims die grote bedrijven doen wel helemaal kloppen. Is dat niet zo, dan heb je een aanklacht aan je broek van De Roos Advocaten. Je kunt ze kennen van de zaak tegen Primark samen met Sara Dubbeldam, waarin Primark schuldig werd bevonden van greenwashing met hun duurzaamheidsclaims in de winkels. Ook Zalando werd schuldig bevonden aan greenwashing. Op hun verpakkingen werd ''100% recycled and delivered carbon neutral''. Onzin dus. En zo zijn er nog talloze zaken waar de aangeklaagde aan het kortste eind trok en onze gast een gewonnen case aan haar lijstje kon toevoegen.
