⏱️ RAG explained in 13 seconds 1️⃣ Stage 1: Ingestion External data is cleaned and transformed into a format that the model understands. ✂️ Chunking External data is split into smaller chunks to enable efficient processing and improve retrieval by helping the model access and rank only the most relevant sections. ✨ Embedding generation Chunked data is passed to an embedding model and transformed into vectors. 2️⃣ Stage 2: Inference After external data is encoded and stored, it’s ready to be retrieved during inference, when the model generates a response or answers a question. 🔍 Retrieval Data is retrieved from an external knowledge source in relation to a user query. The simplest form of retrieval is finding data most similar to the query through semantic similarity search. 🔧 Augmentation Retrieved external information is inserted it into a predefined prompt template. ✍️ Generation The model consumes the augmented prompt and generates a coherent, accurate, and contextually relevant response that references the enriched external data.
