Celebrating the launch of State of AI Report 2024 today by Air Street Capital! The most comprehensive and impactful overview of where AI is today and where it is heading tomorrow. https://stateof.ai Some material that we contributed from the Zeta Alpha data treasure trove on AI Research. 1/ The recent changes in AI publication volumes per organization show interesting shifts in how corporare AI labs deal with the open/closed discussion. 2/ Alternatives to the Transformer architecture, like new RNN variants, SSM and Linear attention are emerging, but their adoption remains marginal compared to Transformers. 3/ AI Research in 2024 continues to rely on @nvidia as the most dominant compute platform, with other providers of compute not even close (it's a logarithmic scale!) 4/ But, some interesting hardware alternatives are emerging and growing fast, like Apple silicon, Google TPU's, Cerebras Systems and Groq. 5/ too late to be included in the State of AI Report, but check out Zeta Alpha's "Top-100 most cited AI papers", for a more detailed analysis of the AI R&D literature in our new blog post. https://lnkd.in/ehbEVSUu Congrats to Nathan Benaich, Alex Chalmers and team for pulling off this magnificent piece of work!

Exciting times in IR! In our latest Neural Search Talks episode, we interviewed Manuel Faysse about ColPali’s journey, the challenges, and the paradigm shift it brings. Catch it on YouTube and your favorite podcast platforms to wrap up your week (links below). This is easily one of the most impactful changes for document search engines in a long time: retrieval via combined vision and language AI models that read the page like a human eye, instead of clunky PDF preprocessing pipelines. You can find the latest episode, "ColPali: Document Retrieval with Vision-Language Models only", on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dyKgSvFy As well as Spotify and Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/dhBh7nSQ Let us know who you want to see next in the series!
