🎉 Hypomar Ocean 1 christening ceremony 🎉 🛥 🍾 On Thursday 8 August, beneath scattered clouds in Smedasundet, Haugesund, Hypomar Ocean 1 was formally christened when a bottle of sparkling shattered against the bow. Ship sponsor Kjerstin Sannes bestowed good luck upon the vessel and crew before flinging the bottle. Local tenor Ole Morten Velde opened the event with "Funiculì, Funiculà". The attending guests were, among others, the Shipyard Manager of Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted AS, representatives from KARMSUND HAVN (Karmsund Port Authority), the founder and co-owner of the vessel design company SOLSTRAND, and from the onboard factory contractor. We thank all the guests, partners and everyone else involved for their cooperation!

Om oss
Alginor seeks towards a green and sustainable future based on treasures from the sea. We focus on total utilisation of seaweeds for production of unique, pure and formula-specific products. Through green, environmentally friendly and resource efficient operations Alginor sets the standard for tomorrow’s innovative solutions. Alginor ASA was established 24th of March 2014 in Haugesund, Norway to develop a technology for total utilisation of seaweeds to be integrated in a multifunctional biorefinery for seaweeds. Seaweeds are among the world’s largest untapped resources. We are focusing on the large brown kelp Laminaria hyperborea and along the Norwegian coast alone there is a rough estimate of 60 million tonnes of standing biomass. To secure a sustainable and efficient utilisation of this important stock it is necessary to exploit the entire biomass. We plan to establish the first biorefinery in Norway that focuses on total utilisation of seaweeds and extracting pure and formula-specific products for application areas such as food, feed, pharma, agri, chemicals and materials.

Hypomar Ocean 1 Takes to the Seas! 🚢 Alginor`s very first commercial harvester, Hypomar Ocean 1, delivered from Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted AS arrived on May 2, 2024. This marks a significant milestone in our history and development! First sea trials has been conducted and in the coming weeks there will more testing of equipment and on-board processes, providing live training for our personnel, and making necessary calibrations and adjustments to the vessel’s operating systems. With Hypomar Ocean 1, we are well-positioned to accelerate development across our portfolio by ensuring regular supplies of large raw material volumes to our pilot facility. This is crucial for our ongoing projects and enhances our ability to offer samples at scale to our customers. A prime example is the recently awarded PROTEUS project, about which we will share more information soon. This achievement would not have been possible without our trusted partners, who have exceeded our expectations. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted AS for their exceptional craftsmanship and dedication. We look forward to continuing our successful collaboration in the years to come. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project’s success! #HypomarOcean1 #hypomar #algae #seaweed #Alginor #Sustainability #FitjarMekaniskeVerksted #PROTEUSProject #proteus #norway #norge

PROTEUS project officially launched - kick-off in Oslo At the PROTEUS kick-off meeting in Oslo, held on May 14-15, the project was officially launched. Around 30 participants from the 11 international project partners gathered in person for the first time. The consortium, coordinated by Alginor ASA, includes Alginor Biorefinery, Hypomar AS, Borregaard, Vaess, Olmix Group, Essity, NORSUS , Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway, Steinbeis Europa Zentrum and CLIC Innovation Oy. The consortium sets new standards for harvesting, biorefining, and applications of brown seaweeds in food, feed, personal care and bio-based industrial markets. The gathering at the kick-off was an excellent opportunity to build stronger connections and dive deep into the details of our collaboration and project objectives. During the meeting, Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) project officer Monica Padella praised the PROTEUS project, stating that it will contribute to accelerating the market deployment of innovative bio-based solutions using sustainable aquatic biomass as feedstock and unlocking the potential of the EU’s blue economy by building a first-of-its-kind biorefinery (The official consortium press release can be found here https://lnkd.in/e52N6ZcC). We look forward to a productive collaboration and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact together.
