The ASEMlab is a laboratory of the Dept. of Manufacturing and Civil Engineering (IVB), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Gjøvik, Norway. It was established in 2018, by Prof. Sotirios Grammatikos, through the Group of Sustainable Composites Research of NTNU. The ASEMlab aims at research and education in processing, testing, characterization, recycling, modelling and non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of renewable materials, polymers, advanced composites, nanocomposites, smart functional materials used in the civil engineering, automotive, aerospace, space, marine, health and consumer goods sectors. The ASEMlab is envisaged to become the core of the Norwegian Composites Research. Members of ASEMlab are active in both national and international research programmes and clusters.

♻️ CIRCULess Project Physical Kick-off meeting ♻️ 🛫 The CIRCULess Project has officially started in July 30, 2024, with a virtual meeting, and in October 2-3 had its Physical Kick-off Meeting, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), in Gjøvik, Norway! 🔬 CIRCULess is a 42-month EU funded project, that brings together a 20 partner consortium, to work together on fostering circularity in the construction and manufacturing process industries, by minimizing Construction and Demolition waste (C&DW) as well as Manufacturing waste (MW), with focus on mineral and timber-based material streams, by developing new processes for circularity of secondary materials from wastes/residues for all industrial processes, without compromising quality and performance as well as sustainable-by-design circular products. CIRCULess project will experiment new circular products and processing techniques to improve quality and performances of secondary materials up to industry standards and improve environmental friendliness. These actions will be supported by a tailored digital platform for waste management, orienting decision making & operation, while recommendations for standards updates and relevant training material for both upskilling and training will be created. 🤝 CIRCULess Physical Kick-off Meeting brought together consortium partners in a 2-day event, both in person and virtually, to discuss project activities and planning, while it also involved a team-building exercise strengthening collaboration among partners, visits to NTNU laboratories and 2 social dinners in the beautiful city of Gjøvik, altogether fostering a successful collaboration for the next months! It was a great opportunity to present SPADE, and showcase its main goals and most recent results to a wide audience. Thessaloniki International Fair was focused on the country's modern challenges and critical sectors of the economy, emphasizing new technological tools, innovation, and sustainable development. The new large #HorizonEurope project ‘CIRCULess’, coordinated by Prof. Sotirios Grammatikos, Director of ASEMlab, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Gjøvik, has recently started. Great contributor in this project is Prof. lizhen huang. The project concerns the Upcycling of mineral and timber-based waste from construction & manufacturing process industries through eco-design, advanced logistics, quality control and digital solutions. The consortium of CIRCULess project consists of 20 partners from 12 different member states (NO, ES, CY, FR, CH, GR, DK, SE, BE, NL, SK, UK) with renowned expertise in the target fields. The total budget is approximately 12million €, out of which about approximately 1.9 million € is allocated to NTNU, and a total of 2.3 million € more, to 4 more Norwegian partners, for the pilot case in Norway, which concerns the upcycling of timber and development of circular timber-based products, such as Glulam, CLT, fibreboards and wood-plastic composites. This project is the first EU project coordinated by the Dept. of Manufacturing and Civil Engineering (IVB), and one of the few EU projects coordinated by NTNU of this size. More information about the project and partners will be released very soon.
