Yet, they often face stigma, lack of representation, and non-consensual medical interventions that violate their rights. Intersex Awareness Day brings attention to these human rights issues, including unwanted cosmetic genital surgeries on intersex children—practices that strip individuals of their bodily autonomy and consent. Intersex is an umbrella term for people with variations in their sex traits, such as hormones, chromosomes, or reproductive anatomy. Raising awareness means educating ourselves, challenging rigid norms around sex and gender, and advocating for inclusive policies that recognize and protect intersex rights.
