We have published a study on Quality of Outcome (QoO) funded by the Comcast Innovation Fund. Unlike traditional metrics that focus on bandwidth and maximum capacity, QoO measures real-world user experience by tracking latency, packet loss, and relating those metrics to the specific needs of different apps. As QoO is still an emerging methodology, we set ourselves the goal to determine its potential as a tool for improving network management and customer satisfaction. Today we are confident to state that: - Users prefer network quality metrics that reflect app performance (QoO) over traditional measures like capacity or latency. - They value metrics that are standardized openly and independently, which boosts trust in their service providers. - QoO aligns with how users feel about their network quality – whether they're satisfied or frustrated. - WiFi latency in the 2.4 and 5GHz bands significantly impacts performance. - L4S can significantly improve end-to-end latency. Network APIs. Hyped? Yes. The next big thing for telcos? Maybe. If you want to hear my opinion, check out this chat with Monica Paolini on Senza Fili Sparring Partners. Having a developer background I do believe I bring a (somewhat) unique perspective in the telco industry!
What do software developers need to make APIs useful to them (and worth spending money on)? Magnus Olden at Domos works to make APIs accessible and useful to application developers. He tells us what he does and what he hears from application developers. #API #CAMARA #GSMA #OpenGateway #5G #monetization #WiFi

I had a great time today at MLab's Internet Quality Barometer workshop in Barcelona. Excellent discussions on how to define network quality beyond bandwidth, and how to measure and understand network quality for specific applications and use cases. Thanks to Lai Yi Ohlsen, Melissa N., Timur Friedman, Luis Miguel Contreras Murillo, Peter Boothe, Sol Luca de Tena, Andra Lutu, Lauren Crean, Neil Davies, Georgia Bullen, Maria Antonia Bravo, Juan Alejo P. , Roberto D'Auria and Luke Stringer Thanks to the UNICEF Giga project for hosting us! More accuracy, less guesswork. Isn’t that what we’re all striving for? Quality of Outcome (QoO) captures what traditional network metrics miss. We ran a study on Call of Duty to see how small network delays affect performance. The key takeaway? Even minor delays noticeably impact gameplay, and traditional metrics like latency and jitter fall short, failing to capture the full spectrum of what users endure. Traditional network metrics miss the mark when it comes to real-world application performance. Bjørn Ivar Teigen Monclair, our Head of Research, looks at how Quality of Outcome (QoO) captures important aspects of network quality that other metrics ignore.
