📢 New research alert 👇 A study, published in Advances in Simulation, has demonstrated the effectiveness of neonatal simulation tools in equipping healthcare providers with essential neonatal resuscitation skills in resource-limited settings. The study, undertaken by Safer Births' researchers in Tanzania, explored neonatal resuscitation skills acquisition after a 1-day Helping Babies Breathe simulation training, using NeoNatalie Live, NeoBeat Heart Rate Meter and Upright Resuscitator. The results were significant. In just one day, healthcare providers—regardless of their previous experience or professional background—acquired life-saving neonatal resuscitation skills. An impressive 87.3% of participants passed their initial skills evaluation. 👏 Read the study in full here: https://lnkd.in/ejwWEmbS Dr Paschal Mdoe, Hege Langli Ersdal, Dunstan Bishanga, MD, MSc, PhD, University of Stavanger, vickfarajaeli daudi #SaferBirths #HelpingBabiesBreathe #NeonatalResuscitation #NeonatalCare

Neema’s Baby, Mother Riziki, Baby Danieli, Mother Tabu, Veronica’s Baby, Mother Najma… These are just a few of the newborns and mothers whose lives were saved thanks to competent, confident, and well-trained healthcare workers. These healthcare workers had been part of the Safer Births Bundle of Care program in Tanzania. When faced with emergencies, well-trained healthcare workers make the difference between life and death – and that’s exactly what was shown in a recent landmark study published by the New England Journal of Medicine. It showed that when implemented effectively, the Safer Births Bundle of Care program – which supports healthcare workers to manage the leading causes of maternal and newborn deaths - reduced maternal deaths by 75% and newborn deaths by 40%. ⭐ Celebrating a Decade of Progress ⭐ Last week, we met with global health leaders and politicians in Oslo to celebrate 10 years of collaboration between the Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and The Global Financing Facility (GFF) towards advancing maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health. State Secretary Stine Renate Håheim reaffirmed Norway’s unwavering commitment to investing in global health and the vital role of collaboration between governments and multilateral organizations. Success Story: Tanzania🌍 The Safer Births Bundle of Care (SBBC) program in Tanzania was showcased as a success story, demonstrating a dramatic reduction in newborn and maternal mortality. Public health pioneer Tore Godal said: “Progress has been slow in relation to maternal and newborn health since 2020. It’s stagnated and we haven’t had a clear answer on how to attack this. Now what GFF and Laerdal are doing together… for the first time, we see a dramatic breakthrough in this area. This is revolutionary. The key appears to be the quality of services and a more comprehensive approach to the delivery of services. For me, after 55 years, this is the most exciting moment in global health and betterment of mankind.” Investment in Health Norad Director General Bård Vegar Solhjell praised the SBBC project for its impressive, documented impact, saying: "We are concerned that aid money should go to things that have a documented effect. What the (SBBC) project has achieved here is enormously impressive.” Luc Laviolette, Head of Secretariat for the GFF, also expressed enthusiasm for scaling the program, noting Norway's significant contributions as not only a donor, but also an important thought partner. Associate Director for Health at UNICEF, Fouzia Shafique, called for stronger partnerships and scalable innovations, highlighting the success in Tanzania as a model for how to integrate product, program, and service innovations. GFF Head of Staff, Diwa Samad, maintained the importance of sexual and reproductive health and rights as a priority and the expansion of GFF support to bring innovations to scale to end preventable maternal and child deaths by 2030. There’s much work to be done, but we were inspired and energized by the spirit of collaboration and willingness to work towards a world where all births are safe. #saferbirths #gff #NORAD #helpingsavelives #globalhealth

⭐ Recently we joined United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India in Madhya Pradesh to support a project focused on reducing maternal and newborn mortality in districts with the highest maternal and newborn mortality rates. ⭐ While the use of traditional birthing positions remains widespread, the benefits of giving birth in alternative birthing positions include improving maternal outcomes, reducing morbidity, and promoting respectful care. Developed by UNFPA with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for inclusion in government training programs, the Alternative Birthing Positions Module has been piloted and validated by the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India - FOGSI, the South Asia Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SAFOG), and the National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh. The workshop received positive feedback with 87% of participants rating it as "Excellent" and 67% finding the training highly relevant to their practice. Many maternal and newborn deaths are preventable. But the difference between life and death is often determined by whether the healthcare provider knows what steps to take quickly and effectively. 👇 That’s precisely the focus of the Safer Births Bundle of Care program, which supports those attending births with the skills and confidence to provide the proper care at the right time through regular, hands-on, data-led training. As a partner in this program, we are proud of the recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that shows maternal deaths were reduced by 75% and newborn deaths by 40%, after implementation in 5 regions in Tanzania. In the face of stagnating statistics, this study – and the Safer Births Bundle of Care program – is demanding the attention of global health professionals, policy makers and leaders, globally.
