Our oceans need our help now more than ever, but with the help of algae, we're turning the tide on ocean crises and restoring our waters. 🌱 💧♻️ The LOCALITY project aims to create sustainable, circular value chains from algae. By bringing together industrial players, we're sparking innovation and crafting amazing algae-based products for both local and global markets. 🌍 Plus, we're safeguarding Europe's aquatic ecosystems every step of the way. 🐟 From nutritious foods to eco-friendly textiles, LOCALITY is paving the way for socially responsible and sustainable solutions. We're using algae from side streams and the Baltic and North Seas to create these incredible products. 🌿 #LocalityAlgae #Algae #Agriculture #Aquaculture #Food #Textile #Sustainability #CircularEconomy

Harmonising algae-based life cycle assessment? It is very much needed to determine the most sustainable processes for future algae-based value chains. In a recent webinar, we discussed the selection of system processes and data providers in this context: How can we improve comparability? What are the main issues? How can we address them? As the discussion moderator Léa Braud highlights, more cooperation among LCA practitioners is an important step towards LCA harmonisation. We are delighted that we have woven such a cooperation with the projects AlgaeProBANOS, CIRCALGAE, SeaMark and REALM algae, fully agreeing with Maris Stulgis. Such joint efforts will speed up the progress in the sector and we are excited about future outputs on algae-LCA from our group and beyond. Standardising life cycle assessment for algae is an important step for the sector. Algae hold great potential as a sustainable resource for both conventional and novel products. But to truly understand their environmental impact, we need robust and standardised life cycle assessment (LCA). Without a common approach, comparing results and making informed decisions remains a challenge. That’s why bringing the algae LCA community together is so important. Just like Lais Galileu Speranza, Sustainability Group Leader at GreenCoLab, we were impressed by the strong turnout and engagement of our recent webinar on harmonising algae-LCA. Last week we heard about different approaches and discussed the challenges when selecting system processes and data providers for life cycle assessments (LCAs) of algae. The webinar resources, both the recording and the presentations, are now published. Find them here: https://lnkd.in/eKYMSPhj Thanks again to everyone who joined our webinar. We were truly impressed by the high level of engagement and interest in this topic. The strong interest in harmonising algae LCAs reassures us that standardisation is within reach. We encourage everyone to continue these conversations; LCA experts working on algae can for instance join the 'Algae LCA Community' here on LinkedIn. Thanks also to the collaborating projects CIRCALGAE , AlgaeProBANOS , SeaMark and REALM algae for the seamless cooperation in organising this event. Let’s work together to strengthen the role of LCAs in the algae sector! 💪 #Algae #Microalgae #Macroalgae #LifeCycleAssessment

This Tuesday, we hosted the webinar "Harmonising Algae-based LCAs" alongside four EU-funded research projects, and we’re still thrilled by the incredible interest it received! It’s inspiring to see so many people engaged in the conversation on improving and aligning LCAs for algae-based products and value chains. A huge thank you to everyone who joined, asked questions, and contributed to this important discussion! We will publish the recording in the next days to make it available to everyone. So, stay tuned. A big thank you also to our speakers Maris Stulgis, Lais Galileu Speranza, Tom Bradley, Jonna Snoek, Märten Lukk, and Jean-Baptiste Thomas as well as to our moderator Léa Braud for informative presentations and the insightful panel discussion. Thank you to our collaborators from SeaMark, CIRCALGAE, AlgaeProBANOS and REALM algae for joining efforts in organising this event. Let’s keep the momentum going - harmonisation of LCA is key toward making the green transition and establishing the Blue Bioeconomy! #Algae #BlueBioeconomy
