Today, during the #ArticDeep taxonomic workshop, we were pleased to welcome students from Tromsø International School to have a close encounter with some deep sea specimens! Scientific outreach plays a vital role in inspiring the next generation to engage with the ocean. By giving students the chance to speak to the scientists and interact with preserved deep-sea specimens, we hope to spark curiosity about species discovery and maybe even a passion for marine science. Thank you to our partners UiT- The Arctic University of Norway for helping to facilitate not just the taxonomic workshop, but the chance to engage young people too. Credit also to our wonderful taxonomists from the Ocean Census Science Network, who gave up their time to show the students their work.

It's important to celebrate the small wins – like less plastic straws ending up on beaches – and the big ones, like the Ozone Layer being on track to heal by 2040 or the near end of commercial whale hunting.  Read more insight from Nina Jensen and Lasse Gustavsson on protecting ocean biodiversity in the article below. 👇
