Chart of the week: Norway and UK's oil and gas industries are on markedly different paths, and the investment gap between the two neighboring suppliers is set to continue into the 2030s. Between now and 2035, Norway is expected to attract an average offshore outlay of $18.9 billion per year, while the UKCS is projected to check in at $4.97 billion per year—comprising only a quarter of Norway’s level. Much of this difference lies in the two countries’ expected greenfield spending going forward, which is set to comprise half of Norway’s investments in the period, against only 35% in the UK. This trend is largely sparked by fiscal differences and the UK’s lack of commercial discoveries, which sees Norway taking a clear upper hand in terms of expected sanctioning activity. Conversely, the UK will see most capital allocated to already producing fields, as a significant portfolio of late-life assets will require higher spending per boe to be produced. Australian voters will face a pivotal choice: the incumbent Labor government’s 82% renewable energy target or the Liberal-National Party’s (LNP) plan to build 13 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear power by 2051 to replace coal generation. Rystad Energy’s research suggests that reaching the 82% target will be difficult, with more realistic projections under Labor placing the renewable share at around 65%—a shortfall of 17%, even in the most optimistic scenarios. Further analysis from Rystad Energy highlights an urgent need for gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Australia. By 2028, New South Wales (NSW), South Australia and Victoria (VIC) are expected to face capacity shortfalls as coal and gas plants retire. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d5JtZHPm #Australia #Rystadenergy
