Last night, our own Anna Erlandsen, Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer, moderated a panel discussion at the Young @ Nor-Shipping 2025 pre-event. The discussion focused on building bridges—sharing experiences and stories of networking. At its core, shipping is a people’s business. While technology, regulations, and market dynamics shape the industry, it’s the relationships between people that drive it forward. The panel highlighted how meaningful connections shape careers and create new opportunities in the maritime industry. From personal stories to industry insights – and even a story on the role of karaoke in shipping socials - the discussion reinforced the value of building relationships and sharing knowledge to move the industry forward. We are delighted to announce that Nicola Mason will assume the role of Global Head of Defence. Nicola has been a highly valued member of the Skuld staff for over 30 years, most recently serving as Head of Claims and Deputy Head of the Hong Kong Business Unit. Her leadership, expertise in shipping law and marine insurance, and dedication to mentoring have been instrumental in our success. Nicola's qualifications include being a CEDR-accredited mediator and a Barrister, with LLB and LLM degrees from University College London. She has been involved in significant cases such as the Hebei Spirit, Ocean Victory, and Achilleas, earning respect from peers and clients. Nicola stated, "I am honoured to take on this new role and look forward to continuing to contribute to Skuld's success. I am committed to upholding our high standards and delivering exceptional service to our members." Nicola will transition to her new position on April 1st. Wreck Removal Certificates to NOR and NIS flag required from 11 February 2025. From 11 February 2025, all Norwegian ships of 300 gross tonnage and above are required to have a Wreck Removal Certificate (WRC). To constitute a ‘port of call’ stop under the EU ETS, a vessel must either engage in commercial cargo operations or, if it is a passenger ship, embark passengers within the port limits of an EEA port. 🔹 The refloating of the WRECKSTAGE Andreas Øgrey discusses WRECKSTAGE 2024, the latest version of BIMCO’s standard lumpsum stage payment wreck removal and services contract. The revised agreement introduces a new risk allocation procedure and a range of other new features aimed to improve contracting and execution of wreck removal projects. On 15 January 2025, a significant ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was announced, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing conflict. This has led to a pause in the Houthi campaign against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Trade through the Red Sea is set to re-open, with some restrictions. Additionally, following the 52nd SHADE Conference, several changes have been made to regional voluntary reporting. A new single information reporting framework will be implemented by 31 March, enhancing efficiency and consistency in maritime reporting.
