We roast specialty coffee for the best independent cafes in the world. And for your office too.

About us

Allpress Espresso is built on relationships. Our success as a coffee roaster is down to the success of the people we choose to partner with – from our first café customer, to our staff around the world and even down to John, who comes in to our Dunedin Roastery Café every morning for a long black. Human connection is why we are here and it’s the important relationships we create that steer us on the right path when we veer off course. We realise that sometimes it’s as simple as connecting two people in a café over a couple of flat whites. Michael Allpress (yes, there’s a guy) was inspired to establish Allpress Espresso after witnessing the specialty coffee revival in Seattle during the late ‘80s. Early on, our obsession with flavour saw a switch from being New Zealand’s first coffee cart, to roasting coffee in the back of a garage and supplying it to cafés around Auckland City. We’ve come a long way since 1986 and today we’re lucky enough to work with over 1000 independent cafes around the world.

In March 2024, we teamed up with La Marzocco Australia to send six café partners to Florence for an incredibly unique coffee experience. The select group of café partners experienced the specialty coffee culture in Milan and Florence, and visited the home of La Marzocco: Accademia del Caffé Espresso. The team were immersed in the heritage and craftsmanship of Officine Fratelli Bambi, where the iconic espresso machines are hand-crafted using traditional techniques.  This VIP experience is the first time we’ve partnered with La Marzocco to host customers at the home of espresso. Fostering a true sense of camaraderie amongst the group, the trip showcased our passion for hospitality and specialty coffee. It provided an opportunity for the group to share their successes and struggles in running independent businesses in an ever-changing landscape. This experience was made possible thanks to our long-running relationship with La Marzocco and we can’t wait to send another group of Allpress Australia customers again in 2025.  You can read about the full experience here: https://lnkd.in/gtHa7am2

We are partnering with our friends at Allpress Espresso in Brisbane to offer coffee lovers lessons on pressure profiling, using our Strada X and all new Swan grinder. The purpose of this free event is to give coffee enthusiasts the unique chance to learn and compete about pressure profiling using incredible coffee beans and the very best espresso technology. The Swan combines new technology with nearly 100 years of experience in espresso machine innovation, allowing La Marzocco to reimagine the coffee grinder. The Strada, which means Street in Italian, was named in their honour. The Strada X improves upon the features and modernises the aesthetics of the original, while combining the most advanced features across the La Marzocco range of products. A lower profile invites customer engagement in a café setting, while also providing the barista an open, expansive work area. Absolutely loved hosting our industry pals at our Auckland Roastery last week for Mini Q; an evening exploring the nuances of specialty coffee. Big thanks to everyone that came through - it was fantastic to have roasters, baristas and hospo heroes in one room. Each competitor put their knowledge to the test in three different sections; Triangulation, Sensory and Olfactory. Congratulations to our winners August, Monica and Johann, and thank you for our prizes from La Marzocco New Zealand, Moccamaster and Acme Cupco 🏆 Of course, a huge shout out to Becky, Joey and our Allpress NZ team for being fantastic hosts too. And the best news? We’re taking Mini Q on the road. Melbourne, you’re up next on June 27 🗓️ Sign up now: https://lnkd.in/gS39Ccv9

Still dreaming about this time last week at Australian Fashion Week. We celebrated creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and individuality – all values deeply ingrained in our brand’s ethos. Our signature pop-up cafe went beyond the ordinary, offering not just exceptional coffee but also showcasing craftsmanship and diverse coffee experiences that captivated guests, influencers, and media alike. From our meticulously curated single-origin pour-over bar to our distinctive cold-brew cocktails, we aimed to challenge perceptions and redefine the boundaries of coffee tasting experiences. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting the man himself, this is Iopu Stowers. He is deaf and one of our talented espresso machine technicians, based in Auckland - a real-life coffee hero for many of our café customers. To celebrate New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) Week, Iopu and Gemma were invited to the Beehive in Wellington for the NZSL Awards. We were beyond thrilled to be recognised and nominated but it’s an absolute honour to announce that we won Employer of the Year! For the past three years, we’ve committed to NZSL lessons for our Auckland team, and have interpreters present for our town-hall meetings. Our tech teams especially have rallied around Iopu and made sure that he thrives in his role and any barriers caused by his deafness are broken down. Congratulations to our Allpress NZ team, and the biggest thank you to Iopu, Deaf Aotearoa and the deaf community for continually teaching us, everyday!

We're excited to announce our partnership with Seed the Ground on the Gold Coast. Together, we're keeping our used coffee grinds out of landfills and composting them. Ten of our supplier cafes including Alfred's Apartment, Nectar and Urban Eatery are already on board, and have already collected over 5 tonnes of spent coffee grinds since October 2023. With these policies, we are supporting our people at critically important times in their lives. We’re also supporting our people to bring their whole selves to work at Allpress, which is very important for wellbeing.” On the back of the incredibly successful Whira Ngā Kaha Workplace Inclusion Aotearoa 2024 conference, we sat down with Susan Verner, our Allpress Global People and Culture Lead to discuss wellbeing in 2024 and making Allpress the best workplace it can be. Coffee and community going hand-in-hand, and as we're witnessing there is a growing fitness community of run clubs, triathlons and sports - and we're so stoked to be able to power these athletes on their journey. Earlier in March, as the title sponsor of the Motatapu 'Allpress Espresso Trail Marathon,' we witnessed thousands of athletes take on various challenges, from mountain biking to ultra-marathons. Our very own Gary Kendrick conquered the mountain biking trail in an impressive 3 hours and 40 minutes, braving the stifling heat with determination. On ya, Gaz! We also sponsored Cheryl Wright, front-of-house superstar at No 7 Balmac. Despite getting roped in at the last minute, she absolutely smashed it and emerged victorious in her age category. Special thanks to our customers Off Piste Coffee Co. and Life’s A Grind for their delicious coffees at the start and finish lines, and to Matt and Fynn, from our Dunedin team, for dishing out our Iced Specialty Coffee cans with a smile on their dial the whole time. Until the next adventure!

Friday arvo knock-off never tasted so good. Last week we hosted our industry friends to our Melbourne Roastery, alongside Melbourne Coffee Merchants. Each roasters batch brewed their take on the Rwandan 'Supporting Strong Women' coffee; Everyday Coffee, Rumble Coffee Roasters, Bench Coffee Co, Ichihaze Melbourne, Standing Room Coffee, BLUME COFFEE, Stitch Coffee and Market Lane Coffee. Of course, the coffee was incredible and the company even better. If you'd like to support the cause, we are donating all profits from Victoria Mukamurenzi's coffee to Supporting Strong Women. This is your heads up to get in quick though, as we are down to our lucky last roasts.
