About us
Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai supports Aucklanders in greatest need. Our services have evolved as the city’s social needs have done and we respond to these needs with care and compassion while advocating for a reality where there are: enough suitable homes, enough money for nutritious food and easily accessible health care for all. Since our doors opened more than 100 years ago, this has been our ‘why’. We offer support for however long and in whatever way needed – for some people that’s simply accessing one of our many services, for others that’s a complex journey with our full support. Whether it's a specific issue that has led people to the Mission, the effects of the continuing poverty cycle, or a culmination of many problems, the Mission's is there to help.

"On behalf of my tūpuna, both Māori and Pākehā, on behalf of the hundreds and thousands of people who have sought refuge in Te Tāpui Atawhai, refuge from the impact of colonisation, we call for the harm to stop." Helen Robinson, Manutaki - Auckland City Missioner, delivered a powerful oral submission to the Justice Select Committee in opposition to the Treaty Principles Bill. As an organisation, we are deeply committed to recognising and honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Helen’s speech speaks to the heart of our stance. Meet Natalie, a Community Connector in our Food Security team. In addition to providing essential kai support to whānau, Natalie is also responsible for managing our community garden space. Each month, she leads workshops that empower people with the skills to grow their own food. We had the chance to ask Natalie what she loves most about her role. Watch the video to hear her thoughts and learn more about the impact she’s making in our community. 👇 #KoreHiakai #AucklandCityMission

"I think the key thing for people to understand is that there are multiple things going on in a lot of people's lives and those things all come together to create problems for our whānau... What we do is we lift just a little bit of that pressure..." We asked Tara, General Manager - Food Security, what she wishes people understood about hunger in our city. 👇 #KoreHiakai #AucklandCityMission
