Still reeling from the connections and insights we gained in Auckland for the annual Big Screen Symposium! HUGE thanks to Script to Screen for making it happen! ✍ 📺   🗣 It was an inspiring couple of days with incredible speakers such as Lulu Wang, Cliff Curtis, Robyn Malcolm, James Napier Robertson, and Pax Assadi to name just a few! Delegates were able to meet with producers, directors, writers, and digital content creators to discuss ways filmmakers can receive support for production activities.  🎤On Day two, a panel spoke about ‘coopetition’ - the ways we work together for the benefit of our own regions as well as ‘NZ Inc.’ Facilitated by Jaclyn Philpott (AFCI), the panel included some of the Regional Film Office New Zealand including Petrina D’Rozario (Screen CanterburyNZ), Mark Westerby (Screen Wellington), Kahli Scott (Film Queenstown Lakes) and Jade Kent (Film Bay of Plenty).   And the key takeaway? COLLBORATION 🤝 Aotearoa makes world-class screen content and we consistently punch above our weight in innovation, technical ability, and stunning locations. Sharing knowledge and resources works to make New Zealand more attractive as a film destination, which ultimately benefits us all.   BSS Event partners - NZ Film Commission, Te Māngai Pāho, NZ On Air, Images & Sound - Complete Post Production #RFONZ #regionalfilmoffices #bss2024 #bigscreensymposium2024 #scripttoscreen #newzealand #screen #film #industry #filmindustry #screenindustry #games #animation  

I've taken the week to reflect on my experience at the Big Screen Symposium in Auckland. It's always a privilege to present workshops and talks, and I was grateful for the incredible generosity of the participants and audience I had for both. I learned so much about so many of you - all looking to do wonderful work helping us all understand the world we live in. Coming from the games and interactive side of things I have to say I was a bit nervous, but there was no need to be. If anything, the NZ film and television scene is hungry for cross pollination (I'm sorry to those who had to sit on the floor in my session). I can't wait for the next one.
