  • What are thought to be the largest retractable grandstands in New Zealand, are now in action at Christchurch’s Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre. ⚽ 🏀 🏐 The grandstands provide 2,500 spectator seats around the central court for high-level sporting events. But with just the push of a button, they can be fully retracted in about three minutes, creating space for two additional courts. They can also be partially retracted to provide more space for courtside seating. This smart design maximises the use of the facility, ensuring it adapts to various needs throughout the day. Keep checking in for more updates on the Parakiore as we continue to showcase its innovative features. Christchurch City Council CPB Contractors WARREN AND MAHONEY AECOM

  • Exciting progress at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre. 🏊♂️ The installation of the lining in the pools within the leisure water area is currently underway. As part of the testing process, some of the smaller pools are being filled and emptied, prior to tiling. Pictured here is the warm water pool and spa pool. With a total of ten pools and spas, this facility is shaping up to be a key destination for both the community and athletes alike. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to bring this amazing facility to life. Christchurch City Council CPB Contractors #christchurch

  • The assembly of the two retractable grandstands at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre, flanking the Show Court, is progressing rapidly. This space will accommodate up to 2,500 people for elite-level events. 🏐🏀⚽🥇 When retracted, the grandstands free up space for two additional basketball/netball size courts, leaving three indoor courts available for use, in addition to the six indoor courts located in the Community Courts area to the south. The grandstands can also be partially retracted, offering flexibility in seating and hospitality options, around the central court, for various events. The installation of seating on the grandstands will soon begin, followed by retraction to allow for the line marking on the already installed sprung wooden floor. #Christchurch Christchurch City Council WARREN AND MAHONEY CPB Contractors High Performance Sport New Zealand Sport Canterbury

  • Crown-owned Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is making a significant impact on the national economy. According to recent Infometrics analysis, Te Pae has contributed a remarkable $77 million boost to New Zealand's GDP and supported 693 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs across the country for the year to November 2024. 🌍💼 Key highlights include: - $63 million contribution to Canterbury's economy, supporting 631 FTE jobs in the region. 🏙️ - 80,200 guests attended 217 events, with visitors from Australia, North America, and Asia making a strong economic impact. ✈️ - $37.8 million from visitor spending alone, benefiting sectors like accommodation, food services, and arts & recreation. 🍽️🎭 Te Pae was built and is owned by Crown Infrastructure Delivery (CID), on behalf of the New Zealand Government. The facility is operated by ASM Global. Te Pae exemplifies what well-operated, high-quality infrastructure can do for the economy, says CID General Manager – Te Pae, Kirstie McNulty. “The Government committed to building a convention centre in Christchurch to help reinvigorate the central city economy post-earthquakes, and we’re now seeing that forward-thinking pay off." Leeann Watson from Business Canterbury adds, “Infometrics’ analysis confirms the huge impact we have seen in the local economy since Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre opened in 2021." ChristchurchNZ Head of Visitor Economy, Kath Low, says, “Business events visitors are among the highest spenders and even better, they reduce seasonality by visiting and spending in shoulder seasons and midweek. Recent research has also shown that 20% of conference attendees to Christchurch would consider relocating to the city.” #Christchurch #Infrastructure #NewZealand

  • Exciting developments are underway at the Kenepuru Science Centre project, where ESR – Science and Research has partnered with CID to deliver cutting-edge facilities. The first batch of structural steel has arrived and is now being installed on site by Hawkins. This new facility is a two-storey building with highly efficient floor plates for PC2 laboratory and workplace functions. Look forward to more updates as additional steel is set to be installed in the coming months, paving the way for concrete floor slabs to be poured. WARREN AND MAHONEY #infrastructure

  • Fletcher Living is preparing to fire up the BBQ and coffee carts and invite everyone to come along for a look at its largest development in One Central – Gloucester Green. Comprising 120 homes across ten buildings, there’s no shortage of living options to explore. 🏠🏡🏨 As construction on Gloucester Green nears completion, Fletcher Living will soon turn its attention to the block next to the Margaret Mahy Family Playground, where work will soon begin. The ongoing evolution of the East Frame is always exciting to witness. If you’re in the central city this summer, do take a walk down Rauora Park and check it out. #Christchurch #infrastructure

  • We recently gathered some feedback on our work from several Crown organisations we’ve been working with, and it’s undeniably pleasing to hear about the impact of our efforts. While it’s easy to think of success in terms of construction milestones – like diggers on site or concrete being poured – these comments highlight the broader value that Crown Infrastructure Delivery brings to the table. It's about more than just building; it’s about ensuring projects stay on track and ultimately benefit all New Zealanders. As we head into #2025, we’ll continue our strong partnerships with the Department of Internal Affairs (NZ), ESR – Science and Research, Ministry of Education New Zealand, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and the Ministry of Justice - New Zealand. But we’re also excited to connect with other Crown organisations embarking on new projects. If you need support in delivering successful outcomes, don’t hesitate to reach out! #infrastructure #newzealand

  • As we come together to celebrate the festive season, it's also a time to think about those in our community who might need a little extra support. ❤ Over the last couple of weeks staff across all our offices have come together to donate to the Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai, The Wellington City Mission and Christchurch City Mission, contributing food and essentials to make a difference for families in need. This morning as we dropped off our donation to one of the charities, it was smiles all round, spreading a little Christmas joy that’s impossible not to catch! 🎅

  • Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre is well on its way to becoming the top indoor aquatic sports facility in New Zealand, with the installation of its 1,000-seat grandstand now complete. With an additional 350 temporary seats, the centre will have a total capacity of 1,350, attracting major national and age-grade competitions to #Christchurch and boosting the city’s economy. The facility is designed for versatility, featuring a moveable boom in the 50-metre pool that will enable it to accommodate various events simultaneously, such as swimming competitions, water polo, and underwater hockey. The 20 x 25-metre dive pool will serve as a warm-up area for large events. Additionally, a 15 x 20-metre movable floor has been installed, allowing for adjustable depths for different activities. In the leisure water area, tiling is underway around the play structure, while the Show Court's sprung wooden floor is being rapidly installed. The Show Court can host up to three netball or basketball courts, with retractable grandstands providing 2,500 seats. The floor installation is expected to be completed before the holidays, with line marking planned for 2025. 2025 also brings with it the final year of construction for Parakiore, with work being completed ahead of opening in late 2025.
