🌐 Reflecting on #AuIGF 2024, members of our Te Puni Whiria (Public Impact Team) joined key conversations on the future of multistakeholder Internet governance amidst a challenging global landscape. With increasing pressures toward state-led governance models, we’re reminded of the need to reinforce multistakeholderism as a means of ensuring an open, secure, and inclusive Internet. The Internet has developed in a way that prevents any single group, including governments, from having total control. Instead, decisions are made together by various stakeholders in a system called multistakeholderism, which operates openly and collaboratively. Aotearoa New Zealand works with similar countries to protect this approach, as letting one group take charge could weaken the Internet, make it harder to fight disinformation and reduce local voices in shaping its future. During the event, Jodi Anderson, our Internet Governance Lead, spoke on a panel discussing pivotal developments in Internet governance, including NetMundial+10 and the upcoming WSIS+20 review. These discussions emphasised the power of connecting local voices with global policies, reinforcing that inclusive governance requires continuous dialogue between governments, industry, and civil society to safeguard the open internet we value. Ngā mihi nui Māori Women's Development Inc (MWDI), for a powerful celebration of wāhine Māori in business! Attending the MWDI Māori Businesswomen’s Awards on Friday, 25 October, at Tākina in Pōneke was genuinely inspiring. Ana M., Community Engagement Manager; Ta'ase Vaoga, Programme Manager; and Kelly (Kel) Te Heuheu, Communications Advisor, were honoured to represent InternetNZ | Ipurangi Aotearoa at this powerful gathering where MC Stacey Morrison, MWDI General Manager Linda Clay and Wellington Mayor Tory Whanau spoke passionately about supporting wāhine Māori in business. The evening celebrated wāhine-led businesses that are reshaping their industries. We extend our warmest congratulations to Rawinia Rimene of Girl Native, whose work in ethical rongoā Māori skincare earned her Te Kaweaka (Export) Award (co-sponsored by us and Netsafe New Zealand), and to all the incredible finalists, Gloria Ngāwati founder of Backyard Tours Limited, and Ceillhe TeWhare TeNeti, Hema Sperath, Neill, and Danica Sperath of TIME Unlimited Tours. These wāhine exemplify the innovation and resilience MWDI supports across Aotearoa. It’s an honour to be a small part of this journey and support their businesses in the digital space.

🖤❤️🖤 Kia kaha te Reo Māori This week we’ve been celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori at Ipurangi Aotearoa with some great activities, like: 🔴 Asking staff questions about where they hear Te Reo in their daily lives ⚫ Hearing from tamariki mokopuna about te reo Māori and the Internet 🔴Learning two new waiata, written especially for Ipurangi Aotearoa. Special thanks to Laughton Matthews, Ricky-Lee Mitai, and Whitiaua Ropitini for all you put into the composition and teaching of our waiata.
