NZ's Working Parent Expert | Speaker| Swiftie | Mum of 3 Teenagers | Host of "How To Smash the Motherhood Penalty" podcast | Creator of NZ's Part Time Power List | Executive Coach |
So lucky to have Maddock Price bring us home in the last episode of "Making Space for Dads" this year. And so appropriate that Maddock talks so courageously about the pressures and worries he carries as a working dad. And he shares what works to "twist the valve". Such great lessons to take into the Christmas break. Maddock is a proud dad to two energetic boys with a third child on the way next year. He lives in Avondale, Auckland, with his beautiful wife, Sophie, and works as the Head of Recruitment at Kiwibank. Raised in Te Awamutu, Maddock is proud to whakapapa to Ngāti Rangi, Te Atahaunui a Pāpārangi, and Ngāi Tahu on his mother’s side, and Wales and England on his father’s side. Plus in small world news - I used to work with his wife Sophie! We are all connected in Aotearoa New Zealand! Our conversation is a magic one where Maddock very generously shares his own personal story and also the resources and experiences that have shaped him. We speak about: - The power of reflection for dads and how it is almost therapeutic. - How tough it is for dual career couples – “everything is stretched”. - The importance of carving out a third space to give yourself time to reset between the different modes that you operate. Hopefully, this season provides reflective summer holiday listening for everyone - parents, caregivers, colleagues that are friends with parents and leaders who work with parents. Onwards and upwards! You can listen to the full episode here https://lnkd.in/ghjxb-4k #makingspacefordads #workingparents #parentsatwork #smashthemotherhoodpenalty #returntowork

As part of our Purpose of Kiwi making Kiwi better off, we partnered with TupuToa, the leading provider of early career Māori and Pacifica talent in New Zealand to welcome two interns here at Kiwibank over the Summer. TupuToa has supported over 1,500 interns and over 200 organisations across NZ over the last 8 years and we partnered with them to help bring us interns who can experience working and growing their career with us. Meet Philip Pesaleli, who’s 21 years old and born and raised in Samoa. We asked him some questions about his time with us over the Summer, and what his plans are for the future. Can you tell us inspired you to apply for this internship through TupuToa? "I was fortunate enough to get a full scholarship under Manaaki Scholarships Programme to move to New Zealand and further my studies. I’m doing a double major in Economics and Finance at Victoria University of Wellington. Given that this summer is my last one in New Zealand, I was inspired by colleagues and alumni to apply to TupuToa, and I was blessed to secure an internship with Kiwibank. In Samoa, opportunities like these are rare, and achieving this is a huge accomplishment for me and my family." How has this internship influenced your future career goals, and where do you see yourself heading next? "This internship has served as a stepping stone that has shaped and refined my career goals by offering real-world experience, feedback, and exposure to new possibilities. It gave me insights into different areas of the bank and has shown me some career paths that I never thought existed. This internship has also helped me gain more confidence to interact with people, especially on a professional level. Successes during the internship have helped me gain self-confidence and self-belief. It has also given me the opportunity to build networks and connections with professionals which can influence my long-term career goals. And it also provided me the opportunity to understand the practical application of my academic knowledge." What advice would you give to someone starting an internship, based on your own experience? "I would advise them to make use of the opportunity and to take away as much as you can from it. It is an opportunity to develop your skills but also to play a part in the business’ success. Do not be hard on yourself, always ask questions if you feel stuck and focus on the learnings, you’re getting out of it. Most importantly is to network and build connections with people, and just have fun." What's your plan after graduating? "God willing, my plan is to go back to Samoa to work and serve my bond with the government, using my knowledge and skills learned from my degree and this internship to give back to the government of Samoa for providing me with such an amazing opportunity to come to New Zealand and further my studies."

Is it ‘Kiwi’ or ‘Kiwis’? We’re here to help clear it up 💚
❓ “Is Kiwi plural for Kiwi, or am I reading it wrong?”. 😲 “Did Kiwibank just put a typo on all these massive billboards?” A recent Reddit thread surfaced these questions after a user spotted Kiwibank's On the Ladder campaign. It’s a great question to ask and often comes up so we’ve been helping to clear up what the right approach is! 💡 In te reo Māori there is no letter ‘S’, and most plural Māori words look (and sound) the same as their singular form. This is why we don’t say 'Kiwi's', we say 'Kiwi'. We haven't always got it right but we're learning and have been making active changes to respect our relationship with Māori and the Māori language in everything we do. Our teams do a awesome job of championing the work to reflect this. It’s also been great to see the dialogue in the TikTok that discusses this further and to see how marketing and advertising can help educate and inform!
