The Graeme Dingle Foundation, recently celebrated its annual National Excellence Awards. This much-anticipated event shone a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of tamariki, rangatahi, staff and volunteers who have demonstrated exceptional courage, resilience, and leadership over the past year. The Foundation’s Primary School Programme, Kiwi Can, supports over 22,000 tamariki every week, working in partnership with schools to teach tamariki values such as respect, resilience, integrity and positive relationships. This year, the highly anticipated Kiwi Can Outstanding School award, sponsored by New Zealand Steel, was awarded to Fairhaven School, presented by Israel MacDonald, our Sustainability & Market Development Manager. Reflecting on the event, Foundation CEO Jo Malcolm-Black says “Change isn’t linear and it doesn’t follow a schedule set by others. This event is a powerful reminder of what is possible when we give young people the tools and opportunities to realise their potential. Tamariki and rangatahi are the changemakers of tomorrow, and their journeys inspire us all to continue working towards a brighter future. The role of supporters is to give rangatahi the biggest shout-out we can, in whatever way we can.” To learn more about the National Excellence Award winners and to support the Graeme Dingle Foundation’s ongoing work, visit: https://lnkd.in/dnPEbeY #DingleFoundation #ExcellenceAwards #EmpoweringYouth
New Zealand Steel
Wholesale Building Materials
Guided by a philosophy to produce safe, sustainable products, we are New Zealand's leading manufacturer of quality steel
About us
New Zealand Steel is the sole producer of flat rolled steel products for New Zealand's building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural industries. We operate a fully integrated steel mill at Glenbrook, about 60 kilometres south of Auckland. The mill is surrounded by 500 hectares of farmland acting as a ‘greenbelt’ buffer zone. We use locally sourced ironsand to produce around 650,000 tonnes of steel a year. It's a remarkable example of how an industry can successfully adapt to take advantage of a natural resource unlike any other in the world. Our brands include COLORSTEEL®, AXXIS® and ZINCALUME®. Our people are our strength & last week at our annual NZ & Pacific Islands awards night, we celebrated the incredible work of our team; those who lead by example, embrace innovation, and who strive to be the best they can be. 75 award recipients, recognising both individuals and teams across 8 categories. It was a pleasure to have the Waiuku College Kapa Haka group open the evening for us. Our host for the evening, ever-so-funny Tammy Davis from George FM commented “who knew there was so much exciting technology and innovation going on right here in New Zealand to benefit our country”. Huge congratulations to Mike Vitale on being awarded the 2024 OVERALL APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR. Mike is an excellent example of where a Production Team Leader has an uncompromising desire to upskill himself and has been proactive in seeking out personal development. Mike has been our first team member to progress through Pacific Steel’s Operator to Trade Development Programme and is continuing to prove his ability and potential through his outstanding work over the past two and a half years. We are excited to share more about our category winners in the coming days. Stay tuned! #people #success #awards #celebrating #nzmade #steel #manufacturing

Despite the Auckland weather on Friday not playing ball, it was still great to share with Minister Watts and Minister Brown the progress being made on the construction of our Electric Arc Furnace and our options for the second phase of Decarbonisation at New Zealand Steel.
National MP for North Shore | Minister of Climate Change & Revenue 🇳🇿 Auth by S Watts, 1 Earnoch Ave, Takapuna
I toured New Zealand Steel, which is accelerating its transition from fossil fuels to electricity for producing steel. It’s replacing two of the four coal-powered rotary kilns and plans to do even more in the future. This is great for New Zealand because it boosts the economy, creates jobs, increases productivity, and reduces emissions. — with Simeon Brown.
