The NZEA is a voluntary organisation formed under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on 12 September 2005. The Association was established as the New Zealand Association of Event Professionals (NZAEP) in response to industry demand for a recognised body to represent the burgeoning events industry in New Zealand. The Association's principle was to bring professionals together to focus on the industry as a whole and to act as a voice for that industry and its 1,100+ members. The NZ Events Association (NZEA formerly NZAEP), our new name reflects simply both our members and the ever changing face of the dynamic events sector of New Zealand.

"We need more concerts" - Christopher Luxon It’s fantastic to hear the Prime Minister acknowledge the need for more events and concerts in New Zealand. We wholeheartedly agree—our communities thrive on these experiences, and they’re a cornerstone of our economy and cultural identity. But let’s be clear: events don’t just happen. Behind every concert, festival, and major event is years of planning, an army of passionate and skilled professionals, and significant financial and logistical support. Right now, many of our talented event professionals are heading overseas due to a dire lack of major event opportunities in New Zealand. Funding for events has been cut, regulatory challenges like special licensing are harder than ever, and freight costs are sky-high. The landscape for delivering world-class events has become increasingly difficult. In the twelve months ending June 30, 2024, live performance contributed $17.3 billion to Aotearoa’s economy. For every dollar spent on live performance, $3.20 is returned in benefits to the wider community. And live performance-motivated expenditure contributes 1.4% to New Zealand’s GDP. Not only this, but attending live performances doesn’t just boost the economy—it provides an immediate improvement in life satisfaction and contributes to long-term wellbeing. Tourism New Zealand’s destination marketing budget has dropped to $106M—less than it was in 2014, despite 30% inflation and a 25% weaker NZ dollar. Regional councils have drastically slashed event attraction funding—critical support for major events like the FIFA Women’s World Cup and Coldplay concerts. Competitor destinations are not making the same mistake. They are investing in events, marketing, and infrastructure to attract international visitors while we are slipping further behind. If New Zealand wants to host more concerts and events, we need: ✅ Proper funding for events at both local and central government levels. ✅ A pipeline of major events to keep professionals in the industry and in New Zealand. ✅ Regulatory reform to make it easier to deliver events. ✅ Recognition of the economic and social value of events in building vibrant, thriving communities. Let’s turn these words of support into meaningful action. The New Zealand Events Association is ready to work with the Government to ensure our event sector can flourish—because a strong events industry means a stronger New Zealand. #NZEvents #MajorEvents #SupportingEvents #EconomicGrowth #NZPrimeMinister
