About us

Stevenson was established in 1912 and has a long-standing history in the Auckland region. The values that motivated founder William Alfred Stevenson still apply today – tenacity, dedication, determination, steadfast loyalty and a strong desire to contribute to deserving causes in the community. Stevenson continues to make a significant contribution to the development of New Zealand’s infrastructure and expansion – from the early days of constructing drainage tunnels, runways, dams and building motorways, through to supplying aggregates and concrete products for major projects – in infrastructure, residential, commercial and industrial construction markets. Acquired by Fulton Hogan in 2018, today the company operates in the quarrying, mining and related sectors with quarries in Auckland, Waikato and the Western Bay of Plenty, and contract mining projects in the North and South Islands. Stevenson is careful to continue the tradition of creating a great place to work where talented people, with high standards, can achieve great things for themselves, their customers and for Stevenson. We still do business the way it used to be done, where a promise really is a promise.

  • ☀️Our Stevenson team ticked off Round the Bays together for the first time! Big thanks to Tara Edwards-Tusa and her family who made it all happen. What a great initiative for the team to connect through wellness and to bring our families together. The team enjoyed their very well deserved cold drinks and BBQ after the run.  Shout out to Zane Yee who got the fastest time for the Stevenson team. Until next time! 🏃♂️➡️

  • Razor Rocks Up at Drury Quarry! Our Drury Quarry team were in for a treat with a special surprise visit yesterday from Scott 'Razor' Robertson, the head coach of the All Blacks.   The afternoon was filled with excitement as Scott engaged with our team and shared valuable insights from his journey.   Just like in rugby, what we do requires the effort of a unified team. Scott's words reminded us that whether on the field or in the quarry, our success is grounded in teamwork, looking after your mates, and striving to innovate and improve every day.   A big thanks to our leadership team who made this delightful and inspiring afternoon possible.

  • Papatūānuku is the land and our Earth Mother, and in the world of quarrying, we are privileged to be connected to her and the resources that she provides on a daily basis, in order for us to help build communities.   This is why at Stevenson, we're always conscious and dedicated to finding better ways to mitigate our environmental impacts through technology and innovative processes.   This year, we're excited to be able to quantify our impact across a broad range of environmental issues through measurable data and achieve an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD - EPD Australasia)   We want to make sure that what we do is meaningful and truly effective.   This marks a significant and exciting milestone for Stevenson as we work to lessen our environmental footprint and support New Zealand in meeting obligations under the Paris Agreement. The numbers will help us understand where our current processes and products sit, and where we need to focus our efforts.   Our customers, contractors, designers and infrastructure owners, can also use this information to reduce the environmental impact of new infrastructure construction.   Learn more about EPD here: https://lnkd.in/gJmjF2sD

And…we're back!   What a fantastic start it has been across all our sites! Each location hosted a dedicated First Day Back session, emphasising the importance of Health & Safety for the year ahead.   We connected and caught up through messages from Stevenson General Manager, Ben Hussey and Stevenson Aggregates General Manager, Kurt Hine. This year, our sessions covered critical topics like mobile plant awareness and delivered hard-hitting messages to remind us of what truly matters- ensuring every team member goes home safely at the end of each day. We had multiple breakout scenario-based discussions on Health and Safety, quizzes, team challenges, and delicious food.   Thanks to Atlas Concrete ltd., Bracey Electrical, NZ Safety Blackwoods, RedBull Powder Company Limited, Orica, and RSEA Safety Australia & New Zealand who supplied us with amazing prizes for the team.   A special shout out to Shane, Jenny, Mabel, and Darren from our Health & Safety team, and Anje who organised a fun and memorable day to ease us all back into our routine, refocusing our minds and getting us ready to dive back in.

  • Not long to go before our team put down their tools for a well-deserved break.🎉   Last week, we celebrated the end of the year together with our families at Rainbow's End. This annual event is always a highlight, as our team gets to enjoy the park exclusively as Stevenson - no waiting in lines!   We had a blast with bumper boats, various rides, face painting, a special gift from Santa, a range of dinner options, and lively music.   As a family business, family values are deeply ingrained in our culture.   The evening provided a wonderful opportunity to connect outside of work and to see many of our team members in their roles as parents.

  • As the year draws closer to an end, it's important to stay focused, 'push pause' if we need to, and remember to Stay Safe.    Our team at Tuakau quarry had the privilege of welcoming the teams from Tuakau Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Papatoetoe Heavy Rescue Tender - Fire and Emergency NZ for a real-life scenario rescue training session.   As part of Health and Safety training, our team got to familiarise themselves with how to respond in these situations, no matter how unlikely they may seem.   This experience also provided a unique training opportunity for the fire brigade teams on heavy machinery rescues, ensuring we are all better prepared for any emergencies.   Thanks to Michael Corban, Tuakau Quarry Manager and the fire brigade teams again for organising and our team members for participating in this training session. Shout out to Tara Edwards-Tusa and Stuart Steele, who volunteered to play their role as patients!

58 years ago today, Colin Stretch started his journey with Stevenson as an engineer.    When he first started, Mt. Smart Stadium was in fact, a quarry. Originally from a farming background in Whangārei, Colin and his wife moved to Auckland and joined a quarrying business which was later acquired by Stevenson.    Colin has moved around different locations and roles within our business. Today, he continues to look after the maintenance machinery for our Drury quarry.   Almost six decades later, Colin says he still enjoys coming to work and he has no plans to slow down. He also credits his mental sharpness and physical wellbeing to being able to remain active through his roles at Stevenson.
