About us

With over 100,000 residential households and businesses connecting to our electricity services, we’re playing an essential role in the economic and social development of our communities. Key to this growth are strong partnerships and innovation which see us explore new ways of providing critical infrastructure and services to ensure our customers receive affordable, reliable, fairly priced and environmentally sustainable energy. Some more about us: - WEL Networks and its WEL Group subsidiaries, build, own and operate nearly $800M worth of electricity network infrastructure. - The WEL Group is 100% owned by the community through our sole shareholder the WEL Energy Trust. - Over 350 people with a range of skills work across the Group to deliver electricity services to our communities. - Over the next decade, we’re planning to spend around $250M on network development projects to support the current and projected growth within our network. - WEL Networks maintains over 7,000 kilometres of lines - around 48% are overhead and 52% are underground. - Around 70,000 homes and businesses in our area currently have one of our smart meters installed which gives us valuable insights into power consumption patterns and low voltage activity.

🚧 Why are road cones making power bills more expensive? ⚡💸   We asked Beca to research the cost of temporary traffic management for lines companies. Spoiler alert — it has skyrocketed — jumping 208% since 2019. 🚀 Every cost that lines companies face, flow through to consumer electricity bills. Most of the time, costs are essential, like maintaining all our poles and wires and future-proofing networks to make sure they are as resilient as possible to things like flooding and storms.   However, some of the costs imposed on lines companies are unnecessarily high due to outdated rules. 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 — 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘆𝗲-𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘀.   We can’t pretend that inflation and the cost of doing business have not gone up rapidly. Everyone’s feeling the pinch, and power price increases from April this year make fixing some of our regulations even more pressing.    The good news? The government has been making changes and are moving to a more ‘risk-based approach.’ But we need to keep pushing to make sure these fixes can ensure safety AND bring the cost down. ENA will be tracking progress. If costs don’t stop rising, we’ll be calling for more change.  📢 What do you think? Seen excessive traffic management costs in action? Have you started to make changes with the new rules? If so, can you see a light at the end of the tunnel where we can ensure safety and reduce costs? We’ve reached the next phase in supporting Van Lier Nurseries Limited with their decarbonisation and energy efficiency journey 🌹 Just over 12 months ago, we helped with the transition of process heating for Van Lier Nurseries Limited greenhouses from a gas fired boiler to a low-emission heat pump. For this next step, we’ll be partnering with WEL Networks on the implementation of a new energy demand flexibility platform designed to control the usage of the heat pump through the peaks in pricing within the day to optimise cost efficiencies. You can learn more about the process here: https://lnkd.in/gQaBirQr *Carbon savings determined using EECA’s GIDI Energy Carbon Emissions Reduction Report calculator.
