🌈⚡ What an incredible evening at Vector! We were proud to host Rainbow Auckland's March event last Wednesday, and what a fantastic turnout it was.  The spotlight was on AI and its positive applications, presented by the amazing Noor Syed. From reducing mundane workloads to simplifying complexity, it’s clear that AI has the power to enhance the way we work and live. A key takeaway? AI must be developed ethically, but it’s also up to each of us to advocate for responsible use. Thanks to everyone who joined us and all those that helped with the organisation—it was a night of great insights, meaningful conversations, and connection. ‘Progress doesn’t happen by waiting, it happens through deliberate action’ The conversation from last week’s panel event for International Women’s Day made this point very clear. The inspiring discussion brought women from across Vector together, to share their experiences and perspectives on empowerment. We covered being proactive in taking opportunities and not waiting for someone to give you ‘a seat at the table’; being bold and making your voice heard; and recognising there’s no fixed box that you need to fit into in order to be a great leader. ▶️ We’ve come a long way, but there’s still a lot more to be done. 👏 Big thanks to the amazing panel for sharing your experiences; Angelika Vopel Amanda Roscoe, Shona Irving, Harriet Blackburn and Karen Ip. 🌊 Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is making waves again with Moana Auckland, New Zealand’s Ocean Festival. Vector Lights will showcase the beauty of Waitematā Harbour in the festival colours, accompanied by waiata ‘Aaramoana’ by Ngāti Whātua featuring Raana Pihema. 🌈 Happy Pride, New Zealand! 🌈 As we celebrate the vibrant and diverse rainbow community, it’s also important to take a moment to reflect on our mental health. At Vector, we're committed to fostering a supportive environment, and as part of our celebrations, we’re thrilled to have hosted a talk from Tommy Hamilton, owner and counsellor at TKH Therapy. Tommy, a narrative therapist, educator, artist, and mentor, works alongside multiple rainbow communities and allies across Aotearoa. He shared valuable insights on mental health and wellbeing from a rainbow perspective: ✨ Rainbow allyship in the workplace ✨ Mental health tips and techniques for relaxation and resilience ✨ Rainbow support as a parent/caregiver for youth ✨ Transgender wellbeing and support in the workplace These topics, though talked about through a rainbow lens, are universal in promoting inclusivity and support for everyone. For the first time, rainbow storytelling comes to life on the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge with a dynamic light show by contemporary installation artist Alex Watene (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Whātua, Te Arawa a Tūhoe). Vector Lights presents ‘Re-indigenizing gender diversity here in Aotearoa New Zealand’ explores the impact of colonisation and raises awareness about Takatāpui identity and its acceptance in Aotearoa New Zealand. 📈 The energy sector is a critical enabler of business and growth, and ensuring that there is a secure, sustainable and affordable supply is vital to drive New Zealand’s economic growth. We fed in to Simon Bridges’ Energy Action Plan, ‘Unlocking the energy sector to unlock energy growth’ at a critical time for the sector. This practical and realistic plan documents 10 important energy policy actions to ensure New Zealand fulfils its economic potential as a country.
