As Mental Health Awareness week comes to a close we wanted to share some of the great outcomes from a two year youth mental health pilot programme called STEPS-A which was made possible thanks to generous support from the community via the Well Foundation. Early intervention and promotion of positive mental health in schools is key to reducing the number of young people presenting to our hospitals with acute mental health distress. To achieve this clinicians from the hospital’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service launched a fantastic two year pilot programme, called STEPS-A, in 17 schools intermediate schools across North and West Auckland. STEPS-A is an evidenced-based social emotional learning programme delivered over 30 lessons and is effective in decreasing life threatening behaviours in adolescents through developing skills in distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness. The pilot has been a huge success with great outcomes for young people, their whānau, their peers and teachers. You can find out more about STEPS-A by visiting www.wellfoundation.org.nz Programmes like STEPS-A wouldn’t be possible without the support of generous people in our community who want to make a difference, they include @downtown rotary, @thetrusts @henderson rotary @lotteries community @procare THANK YOU!

We’re proud to announce our sponsorship with nib New Zealand! Our two organisations are now working together to improve the health of everyday Kiwis, as well as patient experiences and outcomes across West Auckland, North Shore and Rodney. Under the partnership, one of the Auckland Regional Dental Service vans, which provides free dental care to pre-school and school age children across Tāmaki Makaurau, will also be used as a ‘check-up clinic’ by nib for community events out of school term time. The ‘Check-up clinic’ will offer free health screenings and dental checks at nib events across Auckland in the wake of alarming research that found almost half of Kiwis (47%) are behind on their general health check. nib's support will help Well Foundation to fund new medical equipment, improve hospital facilities and enable innovations to improve the health outcomes of patients. #sponsorship #community #healthcare #collaboration #improvedoutcomes #innovation

Well Foundation feels very priviledged to welcome CoastFM Daytime Radio host, Lorna Riley to our board! As well as being a familiar voice that graces many of our airwaves during the day, Lorna is also a North Shore resident of over three decades, and has spent quite a bit of time in North Shore Hospital over the last couple of years. Lorna has experienced the joyful side of our public health care system, with two of her three children born at North Shore Hospital, and the arrival of her first grandchild earlier this year. However, she has also faced two cancer diagnoses, where she underwent treatments and surgeries that gave her a firsthand perspective on healthcare needs. Lorna’s numerous encounters with North Shore Hospital has made her determined to give back, and she is excited to be involved on a more intimate level with Well Foundation and the work we do to bring philanthropic support to our local hospitals to improve patient care and health outcomes for everyone in our community. It's a pleasure to have you on our board Lorna! 😊
