Last week, our global director of sustainability David Symons spoke at the ACE New Zealand's #futurespace2024 event, where he presented 'Engineers at the heart of solving future challenges.’ Didn't make it to the event? Here are the key takeaways: 🌱 Purposeful Planning for Growth: Engineers play a vital role in shaping climate-resilient cities by integrating form and function. Projects like stormwater management can enhance public spaces, increase biodiversity, and bolster resilience. 📐Future-Ready Designs: With evolving challenges, projects must consider long-term impacts as codes may lag behind climate and societal shifts. Engineers are encouraged to embed forward-thinking insights into every project, from creating safer road networks to advancing clean technologies. 🌍Leadership in Operations: A diverse and equitable workplace strengthens our ability to tackle complex client challenges. Initiatives like office retrofits and our Pledge to Net Zero commitment demonstrate our dedication to sustainability. 💡Industry influence: By guiding Net Zero standards for service providers, we lead the industry in accountability and ensuring designs respect climate and nature. We are thrilled to announce that WSP, in partnership with KiwiRail, has been honoured with Gold and Silver at the 2024 ACE New Zealand Awards 🏆🥈 This recognition underscores both of our teams' commitment to innovation and technical excellence. Our collaborative efforts have led to groundbreaking solutions, such as the real-time slope movement monitoring system in Wellington, ensuring safe and efficient rail services on one of New Zealand’s most challenging tracks. It’s also been the catalyst for a new train control room layout inspired by human factors and behavioural science. The design addresses privacy, noise, and lighting concerns, enhancing operational efficiency and comfort. A huge thank you to #KiwiRail and our people for their trust, partnership, and mahi. Together, we are driving forward the future of rail infrastructure in Aotearoa. 🚆✨ #WeAreWSP #EngineeringExcellence #ACEAwards2024
