The Kwinana Battery Energy Storage System (KBESS) has provided valuable insights into enhancing energy storage solutions. These projects demonstrate our capability to support the transition to renewable energy and ensure grid stability, which is crucial for Aotearoa New Zealand's energy future. The Kwinana Battery Energy Storage System Stage 1 (KBESS1) is Western Australia's first large-scale battery energy storage system, with a capacity of 100MW/200MWh. This project has significantly enhanced grid stability by absorbing excess energy during low demand periods and discharging it during peak demand. Building on the success of KBESS1, the Kwinana Battery Energy Storage System Stage 2 (KBESS2) provides an additional 200MW of power and 800MWh of energy storage capacity. This project further supports the integration of renewable energy into the grid, ensuring a reliable and sustainable power supply for the future. The advancements in energy storage technology seen in the Kwinana projects are impressive, says Saeid Seddegh, PMP, PhD, Business Group Leader - Power & Future Energy, "Just as the Kwinana projects have improved energy stability in Western Australia, New Zealand is also making strides in energy storage and renewable energy integration and these learnings can be applied here to enhance grid stability and support our transition to renewable energy sources." When dams are full, it’s easy to forget the need for long-term investment in water security. However, experience shows us that conditions can change quickly, and unprecedented weather events are becoming more frequent. The good news is that unprecedented doesn’t have to mean unprepared. By leveraging our regional service lines, our teams collaborate, learn and adapt to community needs and emerging industry trends. As we step into 2025, we’ve embraced a fundamental question: How can we engage communities to rebuild trust? 💡 While “rebuilding trust” may take on different meanings depending on location, project focus or community context, one universal truth remains: Building trust is hard. Rebuilding trust is harder. Our engagement and communications teams are dedicated to making this year another opportunity for building deeper, more authentic and trusted relationships. 🔗 Discover how we are building stronger connections with communities: https://lnkd.in/gpPDhTMB #GHD #CommunityEngagement

Today, alongside the GHD Foundation, we recognise International Day of Education and its connection to our purpose of creating lasting community benefit. Join in the conversation below!
Today, 24 January marks International Day of Education – a day recognised by the United Nations in celebration of the role of education for peace and development and for building sustainable and resilient societies. This day is significant to us because of our mission to help develop resilient communities globally, which is reflected in our focus of advancing equitable access to quality Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education. Our redefined STEAM priority areas centralise around Teacher Capacity Development, Primary School Programs and Scholarships and Bursaries. Zeena Abdelbasit , a GHD Foundation bursary recipient who now works at GHD full time as an Engineering graduate in the Air Quality Group in the Waterloo office says, “When I received the bursary from the GHD Foundation, the financial support it provided allowed me to focus more on my studies and extracurricular activities and give back to my community. As a woman in engineering, I face systematic challenges in pursuing my career goals – however this award provided me with hope and encouragement about diversity in STEAM fields.” Let’s keep working together to create resilient communities for a more diverse workforce of the future. #InternationalDayofEducation #GHDFoundation #Impactroadmap

We are in the preliminary stages of developing an urban plan to revitalise Burnie's city centre, harmonising cultural heritage with modern needs in Tasmania's north-west. Our strategy is based on GHD’s Loveable Framework, fostering a strong connection to place. A 'liveable' city offers essential infrastructure, whereas a 'loveable' city provides character that enhances a sense of place and community. For Burnie City Centre, this approach involves reflecting on the stories, experiences, and current culture that define Burnie's identity, with a particular focus on collaboration with First Nations people. The project aims to create a vibrant hub for living, working, and tourism, promoting a strong sense of community pride and identity. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gbsTMP_B
