𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! ☔️🌊 #𝗗𝗬𝗞? There are 30 million young people aged 10-24 in the Philippines, making up 28% of the total population. With disasters occurring more frequently, the youth are disproportionately affected by the consequences of climate change—a crisis they had no hand in creating. ⚠️ This #DRRday, UNDP Philippines amplifies the call to build the preparedness of our youth to help protect entire families and communities. 💪🏼🏡 Young Filipinos are not mere bystanders – they are active voices for a disaster-free future, bringing fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a deep understanding of local contexts. With support from the Australian Government , the government, and development partners, the Strengthening Institutions and Empowering Localities Against Disasters and Climate Change (SHIELD) Program promotes resilience by empowering the next generation. It ensures that youth play a pivotal role in strengthening communities to better withstand disasters and the impacts of climate change.

In 2024, the World Risk Index tagged the Philippines 🇵🇭 as the most disaster prone country in the world. While this poses a concern on the potential vulnerability of young people to climate change and disasters, this demographic - representing 28% of the Philippine population - holds immense potential to drive significant change on the country’s overall resilience.
