OTC and UP NCTS Partner to Empower Transport Cooperatives with Fleet Management Training The Office of Transport Cooperatives (OTC), in partnership with the UP National Center for Transportation Studies (NCTS) and UP NCTS Foundation, Inc., successfully conducted the Basic Fleet Management Seminar from July 29-30, 2024, at Chinatown Lai Lai Hotel. This program, developed by UP-NCTS under the leadership of Dr. Jun T. Castro, saw enthusiastic participation from transport cooperatives across the National Capital Region (NCR), Region 3, Region 4A, and Region 4B. The seminar was formally opened by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure, Jesus Ferdinand D. Ortega, and OTC Officer-in-Charge, Reymundo DJ. De Guzman, Jr. In their opening remarks, they underscored the seminar's significance in enhancing the operational efficiency and sustainability of transport services managed by cooperatives. They lauded the role of these cooperatives in providing dependable public transportation, crucial for the country's economic and social well-being. Resource persons Engr. Sheila Flor D. Javier, Engr. Aileen U. Mappala, EnP. Jerome N. Ballarta, and Mr. Geoel Anthony Y. Esguerra led the sessions, offering in-depth knowledge on key topics. The seminar covered topics essential for effective fleet management, including an introduction to fleet management systems, regulatory compliance and safety, vehicle maintenance management, fuel management, driver management and safety and human resource management, and vehicle fleet dispatch management. As the first run of this program, the seminar set a strong foundation for future training initiatives. It aimed to provide transport cooperative members with the necessary skills and tools to enhance their fleet management capabilities, ultimately improving service delivery and passenger safety. The successful completion of this seminar marks a significant milestone in the OTC's efforts to support and professionalize the transport cooperative sector. Participants left with a renewed commitment to adopting best practices in fleet management, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient transport system in their regions.
