School is Dying, Save Our Kids In December, I packed my bags, took my three kids, and moved to Thailand for six months. The goal? To let them study in a British school, practice English, and save them from the Polish education system. At the airport, I grabbed a Newsweek report titled “Polish School is Dying.” It seemed to confirm my decision. Reading the report, I realized I’ve been in a bubble, experiencing problems but escaping them through private schools, tutors, and access to psychology. I was working like crazy to afford these, but these basic tools are not available to everyone, and this terrifies me. We should all be terrified. The numbers from the Polish study are alarming, and similar problems exist everywhere. This is a real pandemic that we should talk about: - One in three Polish children has no will to live 😢 - 18.6% admitted to planning suicide 💔 - 8.8% declared they had attempted suicide 🆘 Some reasons include a low sense of agency, low self-esteem, and immense loneliness. Mental health is crucial, and I strongly believe that we can all help. Just be present, support each other, put the phone down, talk, play games, and learn something new together. 🌟 Schools cannot provide the right support to kids. In addition, we face other serious problems: lack of new teachers, bullying, outdated curriculum, and a focus on standardized exams rather than students. These problems are well-known, and more people are escaping the system by turning to private schools or homeschooling, which is growing at a record 100% year-over-year rate. 📈🏫 I work with many parents, activity organizers, and teachers, and I hear a lot. At Fajny Czas we focus on the best part of education: learning through experiences during school trips. These trips are the best time to bond with classmates, talk to teachers beyond the curriculum, and get to know each other. 🚌✨ We sell these great activities, but from day one, my goal has been to make a positive impact on parenting and kids' lives. While researching experts from the report, I noticed they are mostly unheard of and difficult to find online. I will give them this space. 🗣️📢 🌱❤️ As a first step, I will regularly post news, statistics, and tips related to mental health on all our social media platforms and promote initiatives related to parents, teachers, and kids. I used to hate summer As a mom who was juggling corporate work with running a business, school holidays were my biggest stressor. Every year, as school wrapped up around June 25th and didn't start again until September, I was left scrambling. Two weeks of holiday time is manageable, but what about the other nine weeks? This year, the cheapest summer camps in Poland would set you back 1300PLN = $325 a week plus transport, adding up to about $3000 for the full break—more than three times the minimum wage here in Poland, just for one child. Those costs are just not realistic for most families. Cost is twice higher for UK and almost 3 times for the USA… Many parents, myself included, ended up coordinating day camps, relying on family help, or just leaving the kids at home with their digital devices for company. I remember taking a day off work just to queue up for affordable camp spots, constantly balancing work and childcare, and scouring for any reasonable options. As a single mom of 2, this was a nightmare. I remember the level of stress and amount of organization. (No, home office is not a solution) I created Fajny Czas because I've been there. I've felt the strain behind those perfect family photos we all share. School holidays, especially for parents doing it alone, are a relentless test of "I can do this.". I was thinking about my own experiences and those of millions of other moms who MUST work and MUST care for their children simultaneously. Now, on a Sunday evening with Fajny Czas, we are NOT just selling summer camps; we are making parenting 0.00001% easier, and this matters deeply to me.
