Out now! ODIHR's new online game for human rights defenders. Starlight Stadium helps players to understand all the phases of human rights monitoring by joining a fictional #HumanRights investigation. Created by a team of #HumanRightsDefenders, game developers, legal and educational experts, psychologists and students from across the OSCE region, the game provides a safe space to learn about the risky but important work of human rights defenders who work each day to protect our rights. The game is available in English, Ukrainian, and Russian. This week, we brought together key members of the team in Warsaw to launch the game. Play it now: buff.ly/3TWJBhI

ODIHR tools support Ukrainian courts in ensuring the right to a fair trial in war crimes cases. With Ukrainian legislation not fully adapted to allow effective prosecution and adjudication of international crimes following the Russian Federation’s military attack in 2022, domestic courts are struggling to process the more than 130,000 suspected incidents of war crimes in Ukraine. Tools and training offered by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) are becoming all the more important, participants agreed at an event during the 2024 Warsaw Human Dimension Conference. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of the OSCE action plan to promote gender equality. “We are pleased to see that many countries in the OSCE region have been making progress,” said Tea Jaliashvili, ODIHR Director’s Alternate/First Deputy Director at this year’s Polish Women’s Congress. “But there is still a long way to go. We note the link between the backsliding on gender equality and democratic principles more broadly. The similarities in the tools used to halt or even reverse progress on gender equality are striking, and they transcend national borders.” ODIHR is grateful to the Polish Women Congress - Stowarzyszenie Kongres Kobiet - and the many other women’s organizations in Poland, North Macedonia, Georgia and throughout the OSCE region that ensure civic movements have a positive impact for all women.
