We had 5 amazing days at FOCUS IN THE PARK 2024 🔥 Carmen Chindris: "Four months ago, Adrian Oprea and I were thinking: how cool would it be to take part in the Focus in the Park festival? So, I went to ask Sebastian Marcovici (the organizer) if he would welcome us. I had only had 2-3 interactions with Sebi before... but he said very casually: 'Why not? For your cause, whenever you want.' And so it was. He offered us a 50% discount on the ticket for the whole festival for people who participated in Bike4Cancer Sibiu... Then came the day of setting up the tent. He offered us the best spot, right next to the stage, so everyone could see us! What I can say is: - We enjoyed 5 days of great music in the park. - I reconnected with friends I had missed so much. - We met Sus Inima beneficiaries again and enjoyed being together. - We provided information about the association's services to people who need us and who will contact us. - We distributed information and leaflets about screening. - We saw the joy on children's faces as they received a Sus Inima balloon. - We received donations and warm hugs. - I met people from all over the country who had come to the festival. - Although I thought it couldn't get better, I gained even more respect and admiration for Auntie Tina (Filofteia Cojocaru), who set up, prepared, stayed from start to finish with a smile on her face and all the dedication in the world—she's simply the best! - We got to spend more time with our colleague Alina Vestemean, getting to know each other better, and she's amazing! - And... most importantly... we were together! Thank you, Sebastian, for the joy of being together for 5 days and for showing us that people are still beautiful.  ❤️ WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2024 ❤️ On 20 June, we had the privilege of hosting the 2nd edition of World Refugee Day in Sibiu, and it was a great fun-filled celebration of community, diversity, and solidarity. Among other responsibilities in his role, he coordinates the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection and strives to make a real difference in the lives of those in need. He is inspired by the resilience and courage of refugees who, despite immense challenges, manage to rebuild their lives from the ground up. ❤️ Their work focuses on providing comprehensive support to refugees, from social services and psychological support to community integration programmes. By working with various local organisations and institutions, we facilitate refugees' access to education, employment and health services, contributing to the development of an inclusive and supportive community. 🏠 A particularly important project related to refugees was "Welcome in Județul Sibiu!" programme, dedicated to Ukrainian refugee families. The Sibiu County Council, with no direct role in managing the conflict in Ukraine, provided a support centre, access to essential services and cultural activities to facilitate integration. The results have been impressive, with many families finding stability and actively contributing to our community. 🏫 Vlad's key messages for World Refugee Day 2024 are: 🤝 Solidarity: Together we are stronger. Let's help refugees rebuild their lives. ❤️ Empathy: Open our hearts and minds to understand the challenges and hopes of those forced to leave their homes. ✨ Action: Each of us can help create an inclusive community through small, meaningful actions. Introducing Our Panelist: Jorunn Brandvoll from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Romania 🌏 🌺 Jorunn Brandvoll, Senior Protection Officer at UNHCR Romania, will be joining us for the discussion panel "Putting Pieces Together" on June 20th! She has dedicated her career to helping disadvantaged individuals, particularly those fleeing wars and human rights violations. Her role involves overseeing UNHCR's legal and social protection programs, as well as integration initiatives for forcibly displaced persons. 🙏 Since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, UNHCR has been working tirelessly to assist refugees through various programmes, including legal assistance and material support. ❤️ A significant achievement Jorunn highlights is the integration support provided to refugees, helping them find their place in Romanian society. This includes language classes for 2,000 refugees and career coaching for 1,570 individuals through World Vision and Project Voiajor. UNHCR also supports nine refugee-led organizations in Romania, emphasizing the importance of community development. 🌐 Jorunn's key message for World Refugee Day 2024 is to acknowledge the exemplary collaborative efforts of local authorities and civil society in Sibiu.
