This picture was taken on February 14, 2024, in the @NgororeroDistr community library. It is at #noon; children are coming from school, going back home, but first pass by a community library. It shows how @Ubureziiwacu interventions connect schools and communities. Thanks to @USAIDRwanda, we now have 15 community libraries across the country, including the recently opened one in Nkombo Island in Rusizi district. USAID Uburezi Iwacu is a five-year USAID-funded activity 2021-2026. We are doing whatever it takes to have literacy-supportive and safe home and community environments by 2026.

On this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we reflect on our theory of change. " If we did not improve the home literacy environment’, If we did not increase community engagement' in promoting literacy, and If we did not increase opportunities for children with disabilities, we would not guarantee that we would have literacy-stimulative environments, and we will not be contributing to foundational learning or to poverty eradication. In one of the extracts of the foundational learning strategy, it reads: "Despite the overall improvement in English and Kinyarwanda performance in 2023 LARS, more needs to be done to ensure enough young Rwandans have a solid foundation on which to acquire the competencies and attitudes for good jobs and careers in tomorrow’s knowledge-based economy. A sharp reduction in this learning poverty is crucial for the success of Rwanda Vision 2050, the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1), which envisions the country as a top-tier economy in Africa by 2030 and a globally competitive upper middle income one by 2050." This shows that investing in USAID UBUREZI IWACU theaory of change impacts children and the country at the same time. Let's act now for a future #Rwanda we need.

Sandra, 7, was born with mobility difficulties; when she was 1 year old, her mother passed away, leaving her with her father to care for her. USAID Uburezi Iwacu registered Sandra and introduced her to literacy activities in her community. She is one of the 12,800 children with disabilities who are being supported under #USAIDUBUREZIIWACU
