Sports and tourism are becoming strategic areas for Gothenburg Centre on knowledge-intensive innovation ecosystems (U-GOT KIES). To develop this area we collaborate with Mittuniversitetet (MIUN), which has a strong presence in tourism, hospitality, sports-tech and is very concerned and involved in regional development. To find points of possible collaboration within innovation & entrepreneurship in sports, U-GOT KIES and MIUN hosted a joint workshop to get a better understanding of respective projects and research interests. ➡️ Thursday was dedicated to two activities. One was hiking in Bydalsfjällen and getting a great view of Dromskåran, while discussing the importance of sustainable tourism. The other was a study visit to Woolpower AB, hosted by Christian Stjärnered, which focuses on responsible manufacturing of a wide range of wool garments through retaining production in Sweden, for all types of outdoor activities. ➡️ On Friday researchers from U-GOT KIES and MIUN presented current research and future research interests, to explore where there exist opportunities for further collaboration and strengthening of our relationships. 👏 Special thanks to Karin Berg, affiliated with both MIUN and U-GOT KIES, who has been significant for the workshop! Gothenburg U-GOT KIES affiliated researcher Oscar Llopis, Universitat de València, has published a new book chapter “Academic careers and the tenure track system in Spain–coexistence of state and market logics”, in Tenure Tracks in European Universities (pp. 205-219). Edward Elgar Publishing. The chapter examines the complexities of implementing a tenure track system in Spain, highlighting tensions from competing institutional logics. It discusses how policy reforms led to the coexistence of two academic career models: the traditional state-based system and the market-oriented tenure track model and concludes with the challenges this dual system presents. Co-authors are Francisco Javier Ortega-Colomer, Carmen Corona Sobrino, Julia Olmos Peñuela, and Ana García-Granero ➡ Read the full book chapter: https://lnkd.in/dn8dFdGH

The fall semester of 2024 is finally here! To kickstart the new academic year, the Department of Economy and Society (Institutionen för ekonomi och samhälle, Handelshögskolan vid Göteborgs universitet) dedicated a “day out of the office” to continuous improvements to research and teaching. For the whole Department, Erik Gustafsson reported on the details of how and why we conducted a major review of our two Masters of Science programs in Innovation & Industrial Management and Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship. In the afternoon session dedicated to the centre and the Unit of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, we continued this discussion of education by digging deeper into the coming course offerings. Moreover, we delved into more academic matters, with Anders Broström leading a discussion of criteria and processes for academic evaluations. Finally, a joint presentation by Alisa Chabanyuk, Lina Katharina Hartmann, Johannes Tröndle and Stijn van Weegberg compared and contrasted different approaches and methodologies to improving qualitative research. Photo from the venue, with a nice view of Gothenburg.
