From useless - To use less

Om oss

At Cirkulär, we envision a waste-free future underpinned by circular solutions that utilize all biomass extracted from Earth at its maximum potential. This means not only optimizing the economic use of our natural resources but also minimizing the environmental impact on our planet. To realize this vision, we have set ourselves an ambitious goal - to become the next global leader in circular solutions. Our mission is to extract as much sustainable value and useful service as possible out of residual lignocellulosic waste streams, transforming them from a costly problem to a valuable feedstock for multiple end-applications. We harness the transformative potential and natural abilities of filamentous fungi - powered by cutting-edge fermentation design and engineering principles – to unlock the inherent dormant value in lignocellulosic residual waste. Cirkulär's flagship solution is utilising waste streams from the Swedish pulp industry to produce Cirkulein™ - a high-quality mycomeal™ rich in proteins and beta glucans with a complete amino acid profile. At Cirkulär, we value collaboration, embrace disruption, and promote a strong sense of ownership to propel us forward in our mission to build the next global leader of circular solutions. We are conducting pilot-scale production in Southern Sweden, with plans to expand our facilities and amplify our impact in the upcoming years. Join the circle!

Hello to the future of Circularability! 🚀 ⭕ The team at Cirkulär has worked relentlessly over the past six months to upgrade our tagline: From useless to use less (it’s clever because it plays with words and describes what we’re doing!) …perhaps more importantly, we’ve also: ✅ Designed and built a small-scale industrial plant, commissioned in December 2023. ✅ Optimized the process over the past six months, from January to June 2024. ✅ Achieved a successful one-month continuous 24/7 run of Cirkulär's proprietary fermentation process producing Mycomeal in an industrial environment. ✅ Produced more than hundred kilos of Mycomeal, rich in protein and healthy fibers such as beta-glucans. ✅ Shipped Mycomeal product samples for customer trials. …and currently we’re planning the scale up of our production to a large-scale industrial plant. Exciting times ahead! ➡ Feel like being part of the industrial revolution 2.0? Let’s connect! Read more at our website (link in comments)

🍄 Have you eaten Quorn? Then you've eaten mycoprotein, a fungal mycelium with revolutionary potential not only in food but also in animal feed. 🌱 After years of research, the fish feed industry is convinced of the pro’s with mycoprotein, and the demand for it is growing within the sector. Fish feed based on sustainably produced mycoprotein has a low climate impact, minimal environmental footprint, and results in healthy salmon. 💡So what is mycoprotein? "Myco" means fungus, and mycoprotein is a product derived from cultivated fungal mycelium. Mycoprotein contains around half protein and carbohydrates, and it can be used as a protein source for both animals and humans.  🔍 Learn more about mycoprotein and other innovative raw materials for feed within the project The Feed of the Future for Fish, Pigs, Poultry, and Laying hens: https://bit.ly/44Ydcvo 🤝 Axfoundation is collaborating with experts from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, SLU - Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet, and Cirkulär, among others, to find ways forward for future feed.   #mycoprotein #inspiretoact #acttoinspire

The Cirkulär Board of Directors has been further strengthened by the addition of Parham Abuhamzeh. Currently Director at EQT Group, Parham brings over nine years of experience in project financing and infrastructure investing, along with a background at McKinsey & Company and Citi, contributing invaluable expertise in large-scale capex financing.   "Excited to join the Cirkulär Board of Directors and support the team as they prepare to move beyond their first operating pilot-scale plant on to the financing and construction of their first large scale facility. Cirkulär’s ability to utilize waste streams from the pulp- and paper industry and transform them into attractive feed- and ingredient products has the potential to build a new sustainable and competitive industry", Parham says.   We are honoured to have such an addition to the team and gear up to take the next step in our journey!

Our team is growing with the addition of another star recruit. Fredrik Johansson is joining Cirkulär as a Strategy Intern. Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering and Management at The Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, and with previous experience from Rejlers and chemical engineering at Sekab, Fredrik brings valuable skills and industry experience that will support us in the journey of positioning Cirkulär as a key player in the waste-to-value industry. We had a conversation with Fredrik about his motivation to join Cirkulär and what he looks forward to during his time with the company: "I am passionate about the global climate transition. Cirkulär's innovation of transforming undervalued biomass to high-value resources is a perfect fit for me, and I am proud to be part of a company that aligns with my values. It is especially exciting to get the opportunity to combine my interest in chemistry and microbiology with my background in Industrial Engineering and Management. At Cirkulär, I believe that I will get the chance to explore my passion and be part of real change that truly matters. Moreover, Cirkulär has ambitious goals and I look forward to being part of realizing them together with the team. Joining Cirkulär at this pivotal moment, as we move to commercialize our product and start production on a larger scale, is particularly exciting. It will be interesting and an excellent growth opportunity to explore and deepen my understanding of the industry, and to learn more about financing large-scale green projects." Welcome, Fredrik!

Our oceans are the planet's largest carbon sink. Let that fact sink in. Seabed scraping, also known as bottom trawling, is a fishing technique that involves dragging enormous nets across the seabed. This process releases vast amounts of carbon, which would otherwise remain securely stored on the ocean floor for thousands of years. A recent study, published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science, reveals that bottom trawling is responsible for emitting between 340 to 370 million tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to the emissions of 100 coal-fired power plants each year. This method not only worsens climate change pollution via increased CO2 emissions but also causes irreversible damage to both the marine environments- and wildlife. At Cirkulär, we believe this is maniac. But then, who does not?
