Today, the Swedish government announced the rejection of 13 applications for offshore wind power projects in the Baltic Sea with reference to defense interests. For Eolus, the Arkona (1,200 MW) and Skidbladner (1,000 MW) projects were rejected. Per Witalisson, CEO of Eolus comments on the decision: - It is surprising and very unfortunate for both climate change and Sweden's development and competitiveness since offshore wind power has the potential to contribute large amounts of electricity that Swedish companies need for their transition. - Other NATO countries are building out offshore wind power and we are convinced that it would have been possible to realize some of the projects through cooperation between the Swedish Armed Forces and wind power developers. - For Eolus, we will continue to focus on for example Västvind outside Gothenburg and Najaderna outside Gävle/Tierp, where the government has communicated that it will invest extra resources in increasing the pace of the processing of permit applications. The two projects rejected by the government account for 8% of Eolus’s project portfolio totaling 28,400 MW onshore and offshore wind power, solar power and storage projects across seven markets. Let's take a closer look at Eolus Finland 🔍 Based in Helsinki, our Finnish team is lead by Country Manager Tiina Partanen. With a portfolio of over 5 GW, the Finnish portfolio consists of both onshore and offshore wind power, as well as solar/hybrid parks. "Though the market is currently experiencing slower growth in the short term, renewable energy is needed to decarbonize industry, transport and heating and for producing green hydrogen," explains Tiina. "Our team is committed to working towards our shared goals with a collaborative approach." #läslos #förnybart #framtiden This week is called the "reading holiday" in Sweden. We are delighted to see that GIF Sundsvall is bringing our book about the little dog Alfie and his friend Alex on new adventures. More about the book here: https://lnkd.in/dez6_44K #renewables #shapingthefuture

When the Swedish Green Party (Miljöpartiet de gröna)'s spokespeople, Amanda Lind and Daniel Helldén, asked if we wanted to attend a meeting about the marine environment in Öresund, we naturally said yes. The politicians were curious about our offshore wind power projects in southern Sweden, and we had fruitful discussions about the conditions for building, among other places, at Sjollengrundet in Öresund and in Hanöbukten off the coast of Sölvesborg. We also gained insight into how the Marine Education Center in Malmö works with research and knowledge dissemination regarding life on the seabed. It was particularly exciting to hear the Center's director, Michael Palmgren, share his views on the advantages of offshore wind power, such as the value of the artificial reefs that the foundations on the seabed create. We look forward to more discussions with relevant organizations regarding the development of offshore wind power in Sweden. #Eolus #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #Öresund #Miljöpartiet #MarineEnvironment

Shaping the Future of Renewable Energy in Sweden 🪁 Helena Tillborg stepped into a new role as Country Manager Sweden this summer. With a team of 20 employees, the Swedish development team screen new locations for potential wind and/or solar farms, and develop the sites all the way until they are ready to build and sell. Eolus' Swedish project portfolio currently amounts to over 12 GW, which is 46% of our total portfolio. "Renewable electricity is essential for replacing fossil fuels and combating climate change, but developing production and storage sites requires teamwork and diverse skills," explains Helena, and continues: "But sustainability includes more than renewable energy. Biodiversity and social involvement in the areas where we are present are also on top of our agenda. We try to act locally when it comes to measures to increase biodiversity and we engage in the local societies by different collaborations to make a positive impact for the people that live near our sites." #Eolus #Renewables #RenewableEnergy #ShapingTheFuture #Sweden

Next week the United Nations Biodiversity COP16 Colombia starts. This is the first #Biodiversity COP since the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#GBF) was adopted at COP15 in December 2022. This time, it's all about turning words into action. At Eolus, we acknowledge that biodiversity loss is a threat to people and planet, and we rely on healthy ecosystems for all living things to lead a good life. Therefore, we have set a goal that is aligned with the GBF, to have a net-positive impact on biodiversity by 2030. However, voluntary action by businesses is not enough. We need governments’ immediate leadership to strengthen – not weaken – the policies, incentives and legislation. This will enable the necessary business actions to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. Eolus is one of over 180 global businesses and financial institutions that are calling for a renewed policy ambition to implement the GBF and to halt and reverse nature loss this decade. We need to act now, together, for nature 🌱 #Eolus #Renewables #RenewableEnergy #ShapingTheFuture #BiodiversityLoss #PazConLaNaturaleza
