Om oss

In 1960, Åke Nordin founded Fjällräven in the Swedish town of Örnsköldsvik. Since then, Fjällräven has made a commitment to high quality and high-end design, while staying true to our mission of developing timeless, functional and durable outdoor equipment, acting responsible towards people, animals and nature and inspiring people to get outside. We want to inspire and enable more people to experience nature. We do this by developing clothing and equipment that make the outside safer, warmer, dryer and generally more enjoyable. And by running events that provide the framework and support to make nature more accessible. We’re a team of nature lovers, some more experienced than others, that likes to spend as much time outdoors as possible. In our offices and our stores we are designers, product developers, buyers, administrators, marketers, communicators, sales staff, customer service reps and business developers. In nature though, we’re all the same. Do you want to help us to inspire and enable more people to walk with nature? We're always interested in people who want to join our trek. ‘Fashion doesn’t interest me. I’ve always done things because I need them myself.’ - Fjällräven founder, Åke Nordin.

A refreshing approach to designing clothing and one which we continue to follow as we stubbornly say no to short-term trends. We’d much rather see our clothing in a second-hand store than on a catwalk so please forgive us for not releasing new products just for the sake of being trendy. In fact, 85% of our sales each year are of designs carried over from previous seasons.

Where would we be without curiosity?

Humanity’s innate curiosity has been the spark for our most important scientific discoveries, driven exploration of our planet, and led to countless happy-ever-afters.     But, in the modern world where we’ve become accustomed to instant gratification and have seemingly all the answers at our fingertips, many of us have lost touch with our curiosity and the skills we develop as a result.     Explorer Francois Malherbe’s curiosity led him to search for answers by learning the ancient skill of tracking. Follow him through the wilderness of the Okavango Delta as he teaches others to slow down to the pace of the African plains, using tracking to hone one’s curiosity and develop patience, observation, and respect for the land we walk on.

Take a few minutes for yourself and watch Francois explain things in his own words:

Honestly? We don’t really know. What we do know is that it takes an incredible amount of specialist knowledge, passion, dedication and hard work. Thankfully, there are people out there doing this important and inspiring work. Take the Fjällgås project for example. This has been running since 1975 and aims to save an endangered species with fewer than 200 individuals remaining. We provide financial support to the project and try to highlight the important work of those who dedicate themselves to these rare birds.     Here’s to those in the field. Thank you.    https://lnkd.in/dfuM4sk3

While we work hard to reduce the environmental impact of producing outdoor equipment, by using a product for twice as long you can effectively halve the carbon emissions over time of your Fjällräven gear. As durable as our gear is, after many adventures, it will eventually start to show signs of wear. Rather than replacing much-loved gear, save your money and get it repaired instead. It’s a win for your wallet and for nature. It seems many of you already agree - see how fast our repairs service has grown over the last few years in our CSR summary, here: https://lnkd.in/dtJFbFJ9

The world’s best clothing material? Imagine a material that is anti-static, anti-odour, crease proof, soft, cooling, insulating, and fire resistant. Oh, and did we mention it’s naturally occurring?

Good old sheep’s wool. That’s right, nature’s own wonder material might just be the hardest-working fibre out there. Discover how and why we use it in this video: https://lnkd.in/d7DigfMC #Fjallraven

Is there a perfect pair of trousers for you? With over 70 models of shorts and trousers available, we’re convinced there is. But with so much choice, how do you know where to begin? Our product developers suggest considering three principle parameters when selecting a pair of trousers: activity, function, and weather. Discover the range through the link below, and make sure your next pair of outdoor trousers are the last pair you’ll need for a very, very long time. Next year will be a big shake-up for the outdoor industry. From 2025, brands will have to respond to new legislation banning the use of PFAS (nasty chemicals) from their collections. We started saying no to them in 2009. Research showed these chemicals could be harmful to humans and the environment, so, we put the planet before profit and made some tough decisions to ensure our products were as environmentally friendly as possible. In hindsight, it wasn’t a tough decision. It was the right thing to do. Discover more about PFAS (PFCs if you’re old school) and how we avoid them here: https://lnkd.in/dtJFbFJ9 #Fjallraven #Sustainability

They say there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. Well, that’s fine until you try to pitch a tent in it...
After a tough day on the trail, when you’re longing to curl up inside your sleeping bag and give those feet a well deserved-rest, the last thing you want is Mother Nature trying her best to wash your tent away. So how can you make putting a tent up in windy conditions a breeze? Check out our video for some tips from the trail. https://lnkd.in/dqqKGJiA #Fjallraven

Twenty years ago, we held the first Fjällräven Classic - an event designed to inspire more people to get out into nature. That’s 20 years of sharing knowledge and experiences, and nurturing appreciation for the great outdoors. What started inside the Arctic Circle in Sweden has now spread to seven countries including Chile, South Korea and the USA. Every hour spent on the trail is an hour not spent in traffic or being bombarded with ads for fast fashion. Each step on the trail strengthens our bond with the environment and our resolve to do more to protect it. So thank you to everyone who’s taken part in a Fjällräven Classic, and here’s to the next 20 years! Fjällräven Classic Sweden starts today! Did you know that it’s the longest, and longest running, of our global trekking events? The trail is 110 kilometres of majestic, rugged wilderness and the first one took place 20 years ago. That’s a lot of steps, and each one has generated unique insights about nature and nurtured a deeper appreciation for the great outdoors. We wish this year’s participants all the best as they set off. To get a better sense of what the trek is all about, read more here: https://lnkd.in/d4nPXw3q #FjallravenClassic2024 #SeeYouOutHere
