We believe in addressing the full spectrum of environmental and social impacts, and we're committed to transparency and meaningful change 🌎 It's an honor to be recognized for the work that we do—thank you for the highlight, Ken!
How can one tell which fashion brands are #sustainable? Were one to use #carbonemissions as a simplifying proxy for sustainability (which is, of course, a coarse simplification given the suite of #environmental and #social impacts engendered by fashion)….it is next to impossible…and getting harder. 🌎 First, I know of only one fashion brand, Houdini Sportswear that even measures its impacts against planetary boundaries - the only way to tell if a brand is sustainable. Only one. For any other fashion brand it is impossible to tell if they are acting sustainably. 🛢️Next, many brands either do not report on their emissions (e.g. Urban Outfitters) or still report only on their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions - which represent less than 5% of their total (e.g. Skechers, …). Here, the answer is obviously no. 📈A series of brands has made some pledges to reduce emissions, even as they continue to grow by double digits annually (e.g. FILA, lululemon, SHEIN, …). Here, it is hard to have faith that commitments will be honored. 🥅 Finally, there are a set of brands that are actually trying to limit their environmental impacts and may be making progress (e.g. H&M, VF Corporation, Ralph Lauren, PUMA Group, Decathlon , EILEEN FISHER, INC., Patagonia, Cotopaxi, and Reformation, to name a few). However, notwithstanding additional pressures for public companies to report, fashion’s carbon footprint is going to get harder to track and will continue to grow. One reason why: Companies like Temu, that do not even prepare a “sustainability” report, are growing unbranded low cost / low price (e.g. < $20) apparel and footwear exponentially. Not to be outdone, Amazon is opening a “Low Price Store” selling unbranded items (to include but not limited to apparel) with direct shipment from China. To compete with Temu, Amazon will be offering a tradeoff: longer delivery times for lower prices. Amazon has put limits on the prices for each category to quality to sell on their Low Price Store (e.g. $7 for a Bicycle Bell and $7 for a Cable Tie). These products, will, no doubt, be made of inexpensive inputs (likely from fossil fuel) and their emissions will go unreported. Thanks to Chinasellers from Brands Factory for the information about Amazon’s plans. WWF is a global leader in conservation, with over 38 million supporters and a network active in more than 100 countries. Their mission? To protect biodiversity, promote sustainable resource use, and create a future where people and nature thrive in harmony 🌱 Last week, our very own Regeneration Lead Malva Carlsson had the privilege of joining a panel discussion hosted by Världsnaturfonden WWF / WWF Sweden in connection with the release of their Living Planet Report 2024. Together, we explored how the business sector can play a significant role in driving real, sustainable change. The report highlights a startling fact: vertebrate populations have, on average, decreased by 73% since 1970. While this is concerning, the conversations that followed sparked hope and creativity, emphasizing insightful reflections and practical solutions we all can embrace for a healthier planet. Explore the key findings from the report and find out how you can contribute here: https://lnkd.in/dGpTdkHv #HoudiniSportswear #WWF #LivingPlanetReport2024

No words. No numbers. No graphs. Just a series of colored bars vividly depicting the progression of global warming in a single, striking image. This is the first time, the Climate Stripes are being flown at sea. We’re proud to support the Northwest Passage Ocean Science Expedition 2024. During their voyage, the crew is showcasing the Climate Stripes to convey a critical message: our planet is changing. The Arctic, essential for regulating global climate, is at the heart of this expedition, which aims to document and understand these shifts. As they navigate through six Climate Tipping Points, they are witnessing the effects firsthand—from shrinking sea ice to rapidly melting ice sheets. Follow their journey, led by Keith Tuffley, as they venture into the Far North 🌬 #HoudiniSportswear #OceanScienceExpedition #AbelTasmanYacht #NorthwestPassage #TippingPoints #PlanetaryTippingPoints

#ReconnectToNature • Connecting with nature is becoming increasingly important. In this day and age, we live in concrete jungles, surrounded by artificial lights and constant noise. Many of us feel a deep longing to find comfort in the embrace of our natural surroundings. Inspired by this purpose, we bring you stories from our community that reflect how they interact with nature through various activities 🌿 Hiking is an excellent way to immerse yourself in nature and experience its many benefits. Third Culture Kids unites people from diverse backgrounds with the aim to break the image of who nature is for and the idea that you have to be a certain type of person, or have special skills to discover all that nature has to offer.
