<< NEW SPACE TECH>> Mantis Photonics AB re-engineered a hyperspectral space camera originally used to study the Earth’s surface, transforming it to capture detailed images of the back of the eye, specifically the retina. By analyzing proteins in the retina, the camera can detect early indicators of severe diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, making it a powerful tool for preventative healthcare. Meet Mantis Photonics, a deep-tech company participating in ESA BIC Sweden - the national space incubator. << CYBER SECURITY >> Cyber threats are increasing in complexity and scale. 90% of Swedish companies experienced at least one cyber incident last year. New technologies for carrying out attacks and breaches are evolving rapidly. Many companies are still not adequately prepared. Despite the rising threats, 60% of organizations admitted they lack sufficient resources to effectively manage cyber threats. Among the most common types of attacks affecting both small and large companies, we still see phishing attacks and ransomware. <<DEEP TECH COLLABORATION>> Ideon Science Park, Lund University, and Annehem Fastigheter are carrying out a feasibility study together. The group will carry out market research by interviewing target groups and stakeholders to identify existing needs. —Testbeds are crucial for startups as well as established companies to test their technologies, says Ideon Science Park’s CEO Anders G Nilsson. The goal of this study is to lay the groundwork for creating an integrated, commercial, and academic test bed in the next phase. << SECURITY >> Last week we hosted an inspirational and educational half-day conference together with the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association and Teknikföretagen The Swedish Security Service handles national security, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and the protection of high-level officials in Sweden. Two agents held a seminar on industrial espionage, during which we gained insights into the methods foreign states use to recruit insiders and agents. It is crucial to stay vigilant as an employer—especially in today’s digital landscape where threats are escalating quickly. David Jacoby from Unbreached AB gave an inspiring and engaging talk on security culture within a company. Security awareness is necessary for everyone in an organization. However, it requires ongoing efforts to create an environment where security is a top priority. We liked his memes - as well as his live hack on stage! We got acquainted with dual-use startups like GAIM Immersive Technology Group with Stephan Eskilander and Transforming Textiles AB with Sara Rosberg, along with a presentation from Pernilla Gallon representing MilDef. <<FUTURE TALENT>> An event that always fills us with pride and joy is our Ideon Coder Kids event, hosted to inspire young people with a passion for technology and programming. The program is designed to teach coding skills to children aged 8 to 15, introducing them to programming, game development, and digital problem-solving. Founded in 2017, Ideon Coder Kids is held annually during the autumn break. It offers both beginners and children with some coding knowledge the opportunity to build their skills in a tech-centered environment. Association of Diplomats Stockholm came to Ideon Science Park to learn more about the innovation system, Lund Innovation District, and us, the actors.   Florian Marcard from Bosch joined, too, and shared what Bosch's Swedish R&D Center Lund is up to: modern software development in cutting-edge technology in the areas of connectivity, security, mobility solutions, and AI.   Florian also shared some of the reasons Lund is a great place to be for a company such as Bosch:   "The proximity to different kinds of stakeholders and partners in collaboration, the quality of life, and the fact that Lund has a rich tradition in life sciences, energy, IoT, new materials, telecom, and software are reasons for being here. <<VISIT>> Today Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Sweden Einas bint Ahmed Al-Shahwan, visited Ideon Science Park. She also serves as the ambassador to Iceland and is the third female ambassador appointed by Saudi Arabia, representing a key part of the country’s Vision 2030 initiative. Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 aims to advance tech development to, among other things, reduce dependence on oil and instead turn the economy into a knowledge-based one. Saudi Arabia’s focus on innovation involves heavy investments in sectors like renewable energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced manufacturing. One project is NEOM, a $500 billion smart city that incorporates AI, robotics, and sustainable energy solutions. Saudi Arabia's focus on R&D has, among other things, resulted in today’s 14 science parks. The Kingdom has also established various incubators and accelerators, such as the Badir Program for Technology Incubators, to encourage entrepreneurial ventures.
