Motatos supports the sustainable reform of the world's food system. We’re a different kind of food store; an e-commerce bringing together heroes to shape a waste-free, healthy and connected future of food. Heroes come in all shapes and forms these days. They are customers and they work for our suppliers. And a fair number of them work for Motatos. Since the founding year 2014, Motatos has successfully entered six European markets and together, our customers have saved over 65 000 tonnes of food and consumer products.

    Last week, our data-savvy crew* joined the Snowflake World Tour, where our data warehouse partner, Snowflake, treated us to a day filled with the latest trends and insights straight from the data cosmos🪐❄️ The hot topic? AI—specifically, how data can become more accessible to users through conversational AI. Imagine swapping out report-building for casual chats, where a bot answers all your data questions in plain, everyday language!     Bragging time💥 Yesterday, our dear 2023 Impact Report took home the Gold and the People’s Choice Award in the unlisted annual report category at Svenska Designpriset (the Swedish Design Awards). And as if that wasn’t enough, our People Magazine Waste (yes, named for obvious food waste reasons) also snagged the People’s Choice Award in the employee magazine category. Kudos to our brilliant designers Johan, Sara, and the full creative team, whose eyes-for-the-details always make sure we look our prettiest! One thing is clear: if there would be a design galaxy, you would be the shining stars🌟🌟

    Time to spill some marketing testing tea—from one marketing pro to another🫖 This summer, we tried something brand new (literally) in Germany: we shifted part of our marketing budget to lower prices on A-brands by an average of 15%. The goal? Better deals for our customers, more clicks, and ultimately more food saved! How did we roll it out? June: Quiet price drop. July: Price drop + communication boost. Results? On the great side: Tons of positive feedback, with a 33% increase in social media engagement month over month and better conversion (yay!). On the not-so-great side: We did not fully reach break-even. So, in the end, we didn’t quite hit the mark, but we’re confident we’re onto something. We’ll keep testing—maybe we just haven’t found the right angle yet! Kudos to our marketing pros Maike Grave, Ina Schahin, Ida Strandberg, Joshua Dreher, Camilla Tornberg, and Pia Janiak for the brilliant idea and for daring to try new things and executing it well💫 If any other marketing pros out there have tried something similar, we’d love to hear your experiences and learnings in the comments!     Sometimes, things don’t go as planned! Our friends at Vakna Functional Foods AB were all set to launch their latest choco fusion bar, a dreamy blend of milk chocolate with a hint of white chocolate🍫 Just as they were about to press the launch button, they realized they had made a tiny error in their eagerness to share the bar with the world: the EAN code on the packaging was printed incorrectly, which meant the bars couldn’t be sold in regular stores anymore. But here’s the good news: now, together with Vakna, we’re saving all the misprinted bars and offering them at half the price through our shop. A win for everyone who wants to try the new bar and save some money. And honestly, who doesn’t?🫶 Link to the bar in the comments!

    Today is International Food Loss and Waste Day! To honor the day and shine a light on food waste, we hosted a lunch event at Stiftelsen Rosendals Trädgård in Stockholm earlier this week, all about showering love on foods on the verge of being wasted💚 Our host, Vivi Wallin, kept the energy high and the vibes fun, while Paul Svensson wowed everyone with a three-course meal made from ingredients that would have otherwise been history—like vintage cream and raspberries-that-no-one-wants. He even shared some genius cooking hacks, like how wilted veggies have more flavor than their fresher friends and are perfect for soups and stews (yep, even better than the fresh ones!)🫑🥕🥦 Naturally, we paired it all with delicious drinks from Rscued, made from fruits and berries at risk of getting tossed🍓🫐 Together with Paul's dishes, they showed just how amazing saved food can be.     Let us present: Finland’s oldest spice🇫🇮🧂🌶️ A 30-year-old clove found in Merikarvia by Anne. The spice was discovered in Anne’s grandmother’s spice cabinet, which had remained untouched since her passing in 2015 at the age of 89. Anne believes the spice dates back to 1993, making it as old as she is. Congrats to Anne on the win, and kudos to her grandmother for keeping good food instead of tossing it just because the best-before date has passed.     Denmark’s oldest spice on TV 2 Danmark's Go' morgen show this morning🇩🇰🧂🌶️ Meet the winner: a clove over 40 years old from Liseleje. Anne Marie bought it to make festive decorations with oranges and cloves for her first Christmas with her son back in 1982. Since then, the cloves have been resting quietly in her cabinet. When she heard about the competition, she thought, “I might just have a winner here!” And guess what? She was right - and after all these years, the cloves still have a strong smell and taste!     Yesterday marked a milestone as we hosted our first-ever supplier conference with our largest partners in Sweden who recirculate food with us♻️ Today, we’re walking on clouds, smiling from ear to ear, just thinking about all the great companies and the people behind them that we get to work with every single day. What made our hearts do an extra happy dance was when we were told that the best part about working with us is that we make quick deals and are fun to work with. That perfectly captures how we believe food-saving should be: super speedy and a whole lot of fun⚡️ So, there's just one thing left to say: a BIG thank you to all of you for coming and for being our partners in food recirculation! It means the world to us🧡🩵
