Morning coffee musings ☕ … After a decade working in insight communications & engagement, I’ve seen a handful of common challenges emerge time and again. Two of the biggest, particularly for insight teams starting to democratise access to insight, are: 1. A fear of the loss of ownership. As data & analytics/research functions do the necessary work of removing silos and making insight more widely available, there’s sometimes a concern that those teams will lose ownership of the insight, subsequent stakeholder queries and ultimately the credit. 2. A fear of the loss of context. Similarly, there are concerns that having your insight centralised and available en masse for the business to self-serve will lead to stakeholders making ‘unsanctioned’ decisions, which lack the necessary contextual commentary and messaging from the insight team producing it. The good news is that solving these challenges is not rocket science. But it does require a shift in mindset. Specifically, a comms and engagement mindset. I’ve found that adhering to some key principles provides a golden opportunity to help your organisation make faster, more informed decisions at scale. ♻ 💵 Think about all your outputs as reusable assets, a calling card and currency to drive the reach and reputation of your insight and your team. 📣 🥁 Broadcast key insight across your corporate audience to build shared insight narratives across key topics. Make your insight promotions snackable, timely and actionable. And, where possible, humanise them (talking head video reels etc.). 🙋♂️ 🙋♀️ Importantly, brand all your insight outputs by team and by individual, placing your people as the resident experts and owners. Indeed, empower your analysts to promote their own work, providing that crucial context and wisdom. There’s plenty more but breakfast is over so that’s for another day.
