Meet Ezedin Fedlu, a talented full-stack engineer who has recently joined Telescope and is now contributing his expertise to our client, Volvo Cars. Ezedin comes from Ethiopia, a country with a rich cultural heritage that is often underappreciated. For example, the ancient Ge'ez script, still used in Ethiopian Orthodox churches, predates many modern writing systems. Ethiopia is also the birthplace of coffee, with a unique coffee ceremony deeply ingrained in social customs, similar to the Swedish 'fika' that Ezedin appreciates with his new colleagues. Inspired by Sweden's technological innovation, especially in the automotive industry, and Volvo's commitment to safety and sustainability, Ezedin made the move to Sweden. Now residing in Gothenburg, he appreciates the city's blend of modern infrastructure and beautiful nature. He enjoys the accessible tram network and often retreats to Slottsskogen Park on weekends. The country's focus on accessibility and its efficient healthcare system have been crucial for his personal needs. At Volvo Cars, Ezedin works as a full-stack engineer focusing on AI, DevOps, and full-stack development. His responsibilities include contributing to internal projects and collaborating across teams to drive innovative solutions. He excels at adapting to new technologies, solving complex problems, and integrating diverse technologies into cohesive solutions. He points out that one of his most significant achievements is the journey from facing societal stigma and limited educational access in Ethiopia to becoming an engineer at Volvo Cars. This transformation required not only technical expertise but also perseverance and resilience. In his free time, Ezedin enjoys exploring Gothenburg’s parks and natural surroundings, and attending local tech meetups, consultant lunches, and game nights with other Telescopers. He is dedicated to mentoring and inspiring others with disabilities, showing that barriers can be overcome with determination. He also invests time in online courses to continually improve his skills in AI, data science, and accessibility technologies. Looking ahead, Ezedin aims to contribute to cutting-edge technologies in the automotive industry, particularly in improving safety to prevent accidents—a goal deeply personal due to his own experience with a car accident resulting in a spinal injury. When asked about his first association with Brazil and why we should visit, Paulo enthusiastically highlighted its beautiful nature, lush forests, diverse wildlife, and rich culinary landscape. Paulo finds Sweden, even in smaller cities like Västerås, to be surprisingly international, with a strong English-speaking community that makes it welcoming for newcomers worldwide. This cosmopolitan atmosphere is crucial for him as it mirrors the warmth and inclusivity of his native Brazil. At our client Hitachi, where Paulo contributes his expertise, he focuses on electrical plant design, specializing in routing cableways and integrating complex systems within HVDC networks. His role is critical in optimizing energy conversion and transmission processes, showcasing his meticulous approach to integrating civil, mechanical, and electronic engineering solutions. Paulo is deeply grateful for the outstanding support from the Telescope team, who have been instrumental in helping him and his wife find an apartment and acclimate to the local culture. Their assistance extended to a fun trip to IKEA, where Paulo and his wife were able to comfortably select furnishings for their new home. Additionally, Telescope has taken great care to ensure all work-related needs are met by providing all the essential equipment. In free time, Paulo rekindles his passion for music through playing the acoustic guitar and explores Västerås and its surroundings by mountain biking. He mentioned the invaluable support in having a community of Brazilians in Sweden, which eased the relocation process and provided a sense of familiarity and comfort in a new environment. Gürcan hails from Turkey, a country renowned for its rich historical heritage and delectable cuisine. He proudly shares that Turkish food is a major attraction for tourists and is also popular among his Swedish friends who often rave about their experiences at Turkish restaurants in Sweden. The decision to move to Sweden was influenced by the country's high quality of life and excellent education system, especially important for those with children. He and his family are currently residing in the charming city of Västerås. He appreciates the stress-free environment, the prevalent use of bicycles, and the city's commitment to environmental sustainability. The lack of traffic issues, a stark contrast to Turkey, and the proximity to Stockholm for weekend activities add to their satisfaction. Gürcan is thoroughly enjoying the Swedish summer, with its beautiful weather and endless daylight. The abundance of parks allows him to spend quality time with his child, exploring the greenery and soaking in the sun.
