This year’s World Mental Health Day (Oct 10th) theme, "It's time to prioritise mental health in the workplace", acknowledges the crucial role that work environments play in our overall well-being. Employees are expecting more support for their mental well-being and employers must respond to this demand if they hope to retain top talent. Creating a workplace culture that values mental health can be a powerful tool to help support employees. Here are some signs of a mental health first culture at work. 📣 The results are clear: employees are prioritising mental health at work now more than ever. From our recent 2024 Community Survey, the top 3 things people want to see in their workplaces are: 🧑💼 Leaders building a more psychologically safe culture: Employees need to feel comfortable speaking up, sharing their concerns, and even making mistakes without fear of judgement or reprisal. 🧠 More mental health awareness and education initiatives: It's time to break the stigma around mental health and empower employees with the knowledge and tools to manage their wellbeing. ❤️ Better mental health benefits: Free access to services such as therapy, counselling, coaching, peer support groups, and self-care activities can make a real difference in employees' lives. When employees feel supported and valued, they're more engaged, productive, and likely to stay with the company. This World Mental Health Month, let's make mental health a priority in our workplaces. 👉 Ready to take the next step in supporting your employees' mental health? Mental health is often misperceived as a black-or-white state: bad mental health = having a mental health condition and good mental health = not having a mental health condition. However, good mental health can actually be achieved with or without a mental health condition. Being mentally healthy is a state where we can tap into our full potential, navigate life's challenges with resilience, and contribute meaningfully to our world. Mental health exists on a spectrum and we all experience it differently. At the end of the day, mental health is something that everyone, regardless of where we are in the continuum and what conditions we have, should prioritise and take care of. Join us next week at Calm Circles on Monday, 7th October, 8-9:30 PM for a non-judgemental space for open conversations to support mental well-being.
