At the penultimate session of the programme, our Intake 7 Fellows exercised collective ownership and contributed insights to one another’s interventions. Crafting their elevator pitches to sharpen their thought processes and articulation, each idea was met with constructive feedback to elevate its potential for impact.    With the lunchtime sharing that followed, Fellows engaged in candid conversation with National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC)’s Chief Operating Officer Tony LAI, reflecting on their journey through the programme thus far and the questions they've grappled with along the way.   The focus then shifted to preparing for the long run, as the Fellows then headed over to Ya Kun International Pte Ltd's flagship outlet at Far East Square, hosted by Jesher Loi (Intake 4) for an afternoon of sharing with past Fellows, alongside Craig Houliston (NielsenIQ, Intake 5) and Yik Heng CHOI (PwC Singapore, Intake 6). The trio shared their own experiences and challenges as Company of Good Fellows, and how learning to be more purpose-driven has played a major role in helping them make better decisions in their work.   The day ended with final encouragements from the past Fellows to the current intake, with a call to continue supporting and spurring one another as a cohort towards meaningful impact through their work.

In today's competitive landscape, developing a purpose-driven business ecosystem is key for long-term success. Two of our recognised Champions of Good, Quest Ventures and Akin by Techlyon, show how even SMEs can make a significant societal impact despite limited resources. Quest Ventures actively supports non-profits that tackle pressing social issues across Asia, including youth empowerment and elderly care. Managing Partner, James Tan, attributes this commitment to the belief that “responsible investment goes beyond financial returns, encompassing broader objectives such as environmental sustainability and social responsibility.” The organisation has effectively utilised its Company of Good (COG) recognition to communicate its impact goals across its investor network and portfolio companies. With initiatives like the "Questions With" podcast, they highlight positive stories from startups making a difference, such as community care solutions and veterinary telehealth services. AKIN by Techlyon, embodies a similar ethos, designing future-proof, human-centric marketing for a restless digital era, creating more jobs and delivering impactful projects for society. By engaging with NGOs for skill-based volunteering, Akin amplifies its social impact and reduces campaign costs. Arvin Tang, Akin’s managing director, says that the team’s willingness to volunteer personal time for a social cause led to the company formalising this passion to “consolidate everyone’s interests and establish a structured approach to creating a more significant impact”. These Champions of Good illustrate how even small teams can create meaningful change—by pooling resources and embracing innovative practices, SMEs can align their corporate strategy with broader social goals. With the Company of Good Fellowship reaching its latter stages, Fellows were challenged to explore how organisational impact could be the springboard to exponential growth and change within their respective ecosystems. For the fifth and final Learning Journey on "Partnerships and Scalability” last week, the team from Frasers Property Limited took our Fellows through their own journey in building purpose-driven initiatives around their stakeholder ecosystem.   It was only fitting that the Fellows first stopped by the heritage corner in Alexandra Point, where Adeline Ong, Senior Vice President, Head of Group Strategic Communications & Branding, touched on the company’s history dating back to their humble beginnings in 1883. Having evolved tremendously since then, Frasers Property's strategy today both locally and abroad is guided by their purpose, to deliver inspiring experiences and create places for good. With this purpose as their north star, they have been embracing the opportunity to create greater shared value within their ecosystem of tenants, customers, and the wider community.   One such success story is their Inclusion Champions Programme, which was introduced throughout their malls to create more inclusive spaces for differently-abled customers. Lina Layanto, Chief Concierge, Retail, shared how the programme, which was an industry-first, was designed not only to enable malls to be a safer space for all customers, but for front-line staff to be adequately equipped to detect specific needs and respond accordingly. Apart from training and providing guidelines to their retail tenants on how to serve customers with special needs, they have designated a "Calm Hour" during the day for shoppers who may be more sensitive to lights and sounds.   Chen MeiHui, Vice President, Communications, discussed Frasers Property’s efforts on the environmental front, having partnered with technology providers to implement a first-of-its-kind food waste valorisation programme for retail tenants, which has resulted in the collection of over 205 tonnes of food waste to date. As a true closed-loop solution, the food waste can be transformed into high-quality microbial protein and upcycled into aquaculture feed.  In designing their future interventions, our Fellows can now look within their own stakeholder ecosystems and consider possible partnerships to catalyse and amplify purpose-driven impact while creating mutual value. Perhaps they won’t have to look far, as they have certainly formed close connections within the Fellowship network!

Our inaugural Grow with Purpose programme came to a fruitful close yesterday. With this edition focused on the F&B industry, the programme saw local sector leaders ABR Holdings Limited (parent company of Swensen’s) and SaladStop Group step up as Queen Bees to guide over 50 participants from more than 25 local SMEs build capabilities to integrate Corporate Purpose into their business operations, creating positive change while driving sustainable business growth. Framed around three of the impact areas most relevant to F&B operations, it covered practical topics such as inclusive employment (People), waste management (Environment), and intentional business model redesign (Economic). During this final session, our participants looked back at their challenges and key learnings, as well as the actionable solutions that they could adopt moving forward—all of which were captured in the graduation booklet that was given to each participant. What’s an F&B-themed programme without food? Our participants enjoyed a sumptuous dinner, accompanied by networking with their peers, industry partners, and mentors, to cap off the evening. We look forward to seeing the initiatives that these F&B companies will implement, and invite purpose-driven trailblazers from other industries to co-create other iterations of the Grow with Purpose programme!
