Being at the forefront means to boldly push boundaries and build diverse collaborations to help shape health behaviour
About us
Established in 2001, the Health Promotion Board (HPB)'s vision is to build a nation of healthy people. While residents in Singapore today enjoy good health with high life expectancy and low mortality rates, we want to further improve our health status and continue to enjoy good health as we age. To achieve this, we serve as the main driver for national health promotion and disease prevention programmes. Our goal is to increase the quality and years of healthy life and prevent illness, disability and premature death. We implement programmes that reach out to the population, specifically children, adults and the elderly. These programmes include health and dental services for school children, breast and cervical screening, AIDS education, childhood injury prevention, mental health education, myopia prevention, physical activity, smoking control, nutrition, osteoporosis education and workplace health promotion. New programmes will also be initiated over time to address health concerns among the community.

🌟 Creating Moments That Matter at Health Promotion Board [HPB]! At Health Promotion Board, we're passionate about creating meaningful experiences - not just for the community we serve, but also for our people who make it all happen. Here's a peek into how our HPB family has been keeping the workplace vibrant and engaging through our "Ministry of Fun" activities: 🎨 Our staff recently unleashed their artistic flair at a tufting workshop, where over 100 colleagues transformed ordinary materials into stunning personalised bags and cushions. The room was buzzing with creativity as everyone discovered their inner artist! ☕ From Bean Beginners to Brew Bosses! Our coffee-obsessed colleagues just levelled up their caffeine game at our barista workshop. They mastered the perfect pour, learned bean secrets (yes, there's more to life than robusta!), and now they're all walking around with that 'I know what crema means' energy. These activities aren't just about learning new skills—they're about creating spaces where our people can connect, laugh, and grow together outside their daily work routines.

Empowering Our People to Give Back At HPB, we believe that creating a healthier Singapore goes beyond the workplace—it’s also about building a stronger, more connected community. Through our "Ministry of Fun", we engage our employees in meaningful CSR initiatives, providing them with opportunities to give back, connect with different communities, and make a real impact beyond their daily roles. We are honoured to receive the Community Impact Star Award from St. Luke’s ElderCare, recognising our volunteers' dedication to enriching the lives of seniors through engagement, companionship, and shared experiences. This award is a testament to the collective spirit of our employees who bring their passion for health and well-being into the community. This year’s theme, “Weaving Lives Together – A Tapestry of Priceless Connections”, resonates deeply with us as we continue to foster partnerships that create positive change. At HPB, we empower our people not just in their careers, but in making a difference where it matters most. When we engage, we don’t just give back — we grow, we inspire, and we strengthen the communities we serve. Because a workplace should be more than just a job — it should be a platform for purpose. Join us in shaping a healthier, more connected Singapore.
"Today we have mobilised more than 350 volunteer groups...and from this, we have journeyed with over 8,000 volunteers," shared Adj A/Prof (Dr) Kenny Tan, CEO, St Luke's ElderCare. This afternoon, we gathered for our Partners’ Appreciation Lunch, celebrating the vibrant network of partners that have supported us and championed our mission. The theme for this year, “Weaving Lives Together — A Tapestry of Priceless Connections”, reflects how each partner plays a part in strengthening the fabric of love and care we provide for our elders. We’re incredibly grateful to our partners, donors and volunteers. Your unwavering dedication has allowed SLEC to continue making an impact on the lives of the elders we serve. Here’s to many more years of partnership as we walk this journey hand in hand! 🤝

Taking Charge of Our Health at Health Promotion Board [HPB]! HPB's "Ministry-of-Fun" organised basic health screening sessions for our eligible* HPBians, demonstrating our commitment to employee wellbeing. This year's programme was especially meaningful as we partnered with two strategic organisations: • Singapore Red Cross for blood donation drives • DigiCoach for their innovative health coaching programme that uses continuous data monitoring to provide you with a holistic view of your overall health and guide you to achieve your personal health goals. It's inspiring to see our colleagues taking ownership of their health journey through health screening. * Health screening is recommended every 3 years for individuals with no existing medical conditions, in accordance with national health screening guidelines.

The halls, and sometimes, corridors, resonated with laughter as children and parents matched, jumped or shuffled their way through another edition of ‘You Are Your Child’s First Influencer – roving carnival’. Over 20,000 participated in the roving carnival that kickstarted its rounds at the Families for Life's National Family Festival 2024. 56 parents also bared their souls and shared inspiring stories of their wake-up moments and the pains they went through to nurture healthier habits in their children. Look out for some of these stories on Parent Hub https://lnkd.in/g8whvC3U At the mock-up cooked foods cart, children were having fun finding their favourite foods to make up their My Healthy Plate. It was pure fun to see fish, wholegrain breads and broccoli flying into the My Healthy Plate goal post. Fun Fact #1 - Children simply love their broccoli as we had to replace that many times. Captain Happy entertained many during her unanticipated rounds too. Fun Fact #2 – Captain Happy is always happy because she eats according to My Healthy Plate, exercises at least 60 minutes a day, sleeps 9 hours everyday and stays entertained with the Becky Bunny Family. What’s your secret to being happy? None of this would have been possible without our strategic partners – Families for Life, National Library Board and Sport Singapore. A huge call out to you for being our 1st supporter, 1st teacher and 1st coach last year. You Are Your Child’s First Influencer roving carnival will be taking a short break. Health Promotion Board reposted this
Singaporeans consume too much salt, with the average person consuming almost double the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommended daily limit of 2,000 mg. The rate of hypertension in Singapore has almost doubled since 2010. Consuming too much salt can lead to high blood pressure, which can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems. I still remember cold calling Winlin from Sim Soon Heng Cooking Ingredients pte ltd and making my way down to Defu Lane to promote the Health Promotion Board’s Healthier Ingredient Development Scheme (HIDS) and convince them that it is worthwhile tapping on the grant and working with us to increase the supply and variety of lower sugar and sodium sauces in the market. Change takes time, it took us years to change the nation’s palette for full-sugared drinks to default lower or zero-sugar drinks sold at major supermarkets and F&B outlets today. It may take us that amount of time to change people’s palette for salt used in popular local dishes but it is an effort worth investing in, and the HIDS grant and programmes are here to help our food manufacturing partners embark on that important journey.
HPB aims to reach out to all 110 hawker centres about lower-sodium options by mid-2025
