27th-30th August 2024 It was a delightful experience to moderate a panel discussion at the Hospital Management Asia Conference 2024 on the beautiful Island of Gods in Bali, Indonesia. Special thanks and kudos to Arshpreet Kaur Pinky Fadullon-Dizon for the invitation, as well as the entire team for their tireless work to organize the conference. It was an honor and privilege to be invited to Asia's largest gathering of health-care leaders It was a pleasure to prepare, plan and moderate the quality and safety session on “Eliminating Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI)“ with esteemed panelists. The session underscored that HAIs are one of the most common preventable complications of hospitalized patients and therefore are frequently used as indicators of the quality of patient care. Many many thanks to Mohd Fazli Shuib, RPh, MBA. Rudy Onia Soo Jeong Kim again for your invaluable expertise and sharing all the insightful comments. My second session moderated the Chief Information Officer (CIO) summit with an illustrious set of panelists and topic titled- “Toward A Zero Trust Framework”. Something really relevant but outside of my area of expertise. While the content of the discussion was unfamiliar and hardly known to me, I was obviously nervous about it all. It did go well, though; I made it to the the end, and I want to thank the panelists, Rogelio "Nooky" Umali Yuan Yudistira Kaushik Banerjea for making my job so easy. Thank you for sharing your experiences and making this session possible and enjoyable. Some crucial insights that were shared by the panelists are IT experts must ensure that their cloud providers comply with regulations and implement appropriate security during cloud migration, as well as to maintain patient trust and ensuring that patient care continues safely during and after a cyberattack. My key takeaway from both sessions is we need robust infection programs to help reduce the risk of HAI infection since new threats are always emerging and cyber security is more than “just an IT issue”, it is ultimately about keeping patient safe. Operating on the mantra of “never trust, always verify”, zero trust provides a resilient and flexible framework for cybersecurity. I wish we had more time for these discussions. On the last day, I had the opportunity to visit Siloam Hospitals Group one of the largest healthcare groups in Indonesia. It was a great learning experience to observe various facilities and gain insights into the essential operations particularly Siloam’s transformation journey to harness technology to drive better patient care and efficient operations. Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality from the CEO Meike Magnasofa It was also wonderful to meet Dr Sivanandarajah Satgunam Ponniah Dr. Zuber M. Shaikh Proud Patanavanich TECK HONG CHONG and connect with so many great minds during the conference. I am excited for HMA 2025 in Vietnam and the opportunities that await.
