🎉 2024 Nobel Prize: How Tiny Worms Led to Big Discoveries in microRNA 🧬 The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for their groundbreaking discovery of microRNA (miRNA)—small molecules that regulate gene expression across various species, including humans. And it all started with their work on the tiny worm, C. elegans🐛! In the early 1990s, their research revealed that these tiny RNAs control key developmental processes by silencing specific genes—a discovery that has since transformed our understanding of everything from cancer biology to heart disease. miRNA’s ability to fine-tune the expression of thousands of genes makes it a powerful tool in biology and medicine.
